Walter Rodgers reported on CNN that elements from 2BDE, 3ID were conducting a recon mission in that vicinity.

Lots of obvious vehicular carnage on the road side. Looks like the wartshogs were flying out in front.

Anybody else wonder why we didn't send any actual armored divisions in addition to the mechanized infantry?

Mechanized seems to be enough at this point. 4th ID is being unloaded now.

4th ID is still an Infantry Division. It just seems odd to me that we make a run through a desert w/o at least a detachment from an armored division.

Well the 3rd ID does have armor, at least those look like m1-a1s :)

That was some good footage that FOX had. I'm hoping that enough reporters are taking actual video footage, because it would suck to have the majority of the historical record of this war to be that crappy videophone footage.

"Mechanized Infantry" and "Armored" are a misnomer in the current task structure of the modern U.S. Army.

An armored division usually consists of 5 armored and 4 mech infantry battalions whereas an infantry division contains 5 mech infantry and 4 armored. Therefore, the difference is basically 58 tanks. Even then, elements from armored and mech units are cross-attached thereby creating fighting combat teams and task forces with M1s and M2s integrated together under a unified command all the way down to company level, depending upon the mission.

Thanks for clearing that up for me.
