Citing the negative example it will set on his grandchildren, former Colorado Representative Tom Tancredo has backed out of his bet to smoke marijuana.

Tancredo bet a documentary filmmaker that if Amendment 64 - which legalizes recreational marijuana - passed he would smoke pot. The amendment passed.

He originally said that he would honor the bet, but in an email Friday, he stated he will have to "welch" on the bet.

The email reads in part:

"I am especially concerned that the publicity may cause my grandkids to have to justify my actions to their peers and afraid that no matter how many times I say I am NOT condoning the use of marijuana, that that message will not get through."

There's clearly good reason why this dumbass idiotic right-wing nutbag was a loser in the Republican presidential nomination race.

Also a good reflection of one of the big anti legalization arguments that exists, which is that legalization increases usage. This is a great example of how that's simply not the case w\ alot of people like this guy.

The anti pot crowd really has no chance in any form of debate w\ legalization.

Apparently setting a good example is not high on your priority lists :(

Stupid to make the bet; not stupid reason to not honor.

 He's on the wrong side of the tide yet he remains stupidly defiant. His loser status should've made that clear to him, but alas.. he's a stubborn idiot.

A good start to setting a good example is to not make promises you don't intend on keeping.

^^ This.

It will probably be easier for them to explain why it's their fault he isn't a man of his word.

I don't understand the point of the bet though.

Cocky conservative wanted to believe his own reality rather than empirical evidence? Just a guess.

Exactly. He shouldn't have made the bet at all if he wasn't willing to do something stupid in the event he lost the bet.

Which one is stupid? The one who tried pot one time on a bet or the one who thinks that someone who smoked pot one time in his life is a bad role model?

If his kids are as properly raised as Tancredo would likely claim, they should be able to see the difference between honoring a bet and endorsing or condoning something.

The problem is... since Tancredo is a right-wing nutcase, his kids probably weren't raised properly.
