There was the same freakout with the RORO ferries awhile back. If they are gearing up to do the thing there is going to be a LOT of warning because you simply cannot hide preparations for the largest and most difficult amphibious op since D day. An age before both subsonic and supersonic anti-ship cruise missiles BTW, both of which the ROC is making major investments in.

From what I read numerous key folks Trump has brought in on the foreign policy side are big China hawks, including Rubio, so this is probably a hard line for them too.
