I hope you're getting the "S" because the base model is a gutless turd.

Your car isn't even that old. Only an 05. Do you want another car payment even more a "fun" car?

Tell me about it. We're planning to head up to the Mini dealer on Saturday to test drive a Clubman, if they have one in stock. We definitely won't be buying then (the dealer likes you to have money to do that) but we have to test drive one to see if it is really 2x mo better than a Yaris. Then we can chart our vehicular/financial course from there.

For Vic: Yes S, but an auto.

Dont do it. Buyers remorse will ensue heavily...take a fucking trip somewhere...create some memories rather than ride around in a shiney hotwheel...that will last oh ...about two weeks

Park your Mazda next to it, look at how much smaller it is. Then sit in it and look in the back to see how much room you really have.

That should be enough, it was enough for me.

Really, I love the Mini but it's just not a practical car. If you want to add some spice to your drive just throw some minor upgrades into your 3 and enjoy not having a car payment.

Sounds like a terrible waste of money since you already have a fully paid-off car that has no problems.

Another vote for a Miata. The mini is an awesome little go cart, but since you already have a better hatch back, get something just as fun to drive that is different.

If you are wanting something small and fast, look for a 2nd Gen Miata with a turbo or supercharger kit installed. Or go with the factory hotrod MazdaSpeed Miata (2004-2005).

Where are you located? If you have to deal with snow, I think your Mazda 3 is more suitable.

Note the use of the plural "We". I blow hot and cold on the idea of getting a Mini, hence the need for a test drive to either ditch the idea or start eating ramen for a while.

The Clubman JCW is um, well, butt ugly.

No car payments here. We'll pay cash or do without, whatever we buy.

I've pretty much decided on a Mini Cooper S in MT, why not? Great MPG, great reliability according to CR, fit (2665 lb, you know how light that is in the present-day car market?), turbo (peak tq at 1700 rpm), reasonable fast (0-60 in 6.4s), handles like a go-kart (my friend drove me in his brother's 1st gen Cooper S in the canyons), etc. I've already test-driven the Civic Si, Mazdaspeed 3, Cobalt SS/SC, GTI, and other similar cars, but not the MINI. I learned how to drive stick on my friend's brothers first-gen S, and boy winding up that SC and hearing that whine was exhilarating. The turbo model loses the whine but is more powerful, reliable, fuel-efficient, and better built (interior).

An 05 would be a 3-4 year old car at this point. I've already sold two of them. Our current car is an 07, and there is already talk of getting something new.

Maybe you have a lot of money to burn.
