Talk me out of a CTS-V

..or not, as the case may be. 😛

I found one with high miles (165k) for $11,700. I love my Forester, but I don't have a need for AWD anymore so I'm starting to consider selling it - I kinda want to get into the V8 game, too.

So, ATG, what would you do if you had a Subaru and moved to the desert?

I want four doors. :\

Grampa. 😛

The CTS-V you're looking at - presume it's the first gen? The ones which had the wheel hop issue under hard launches?

I know you can probably work on the car yourself - just don't know how expensive the parts will be.

You could also consider buying a 2003 BMW E39 540i M-Sport

The M-Sport package in 2003 had parts from M-technic. This included a full M-tech ground effects, M-tech II suspension, 18 inch wheels, and a variety of M badging.)

You could TC it. Only Forced Induction mods I've heard for those babies have been Supercharged. You could be the first one. 🙂

frist gens need about a grand to fix wheel hop.....

and it will WRECK the 540 in about every way

I almost bought one. just a little more than I wanted to spend for the lack of other utility that I needed

Heh custom turbo on a BMW V8 sounds a little too complicated and expensive for me..and stock, it's way too slow. I want something in the ballpark of my Forester (13.65 @ 100mph on a shitty tune). 🙂

But... but... but... BMW!! It entitles you to douchery that you couldn't get away with while driving any other brand. :'(

Before the BMW fanbois jump on me, I drive a BMW. And I, for one, am proud of my douchery 😛

Only if you cam it and put Hoosiers on it and pull up next to old people in STS' and get dirty hoodlum looks from them.

There's one on ebay with 68k currently at 10k with a buy it now of 15k.

good catch; didn't check ebay.

On offer here is a 2004 Cadillac CTS-V with Navigation and Moonroof. 68,000 actual miles, she's in good condition consistent with her age and miles. She's always been well maintained and adult owned with no modifications, she's completely stock. My father bought her new and I bought her from him. Everything works and is in good condition with the following exceptions: she'll need brake and clutch work, the brake pads are down, the rotors are showing uneven wear and the clutch engages roughly. The brakes function as does the clutch, they just need some work. The passenger side rear window is off the track, the motor runs but the window doesn't move. The pistons that hold the trunk lid open need to be replaced. Everything else works fine and she runs like crazy. No reserve.

I wonder how annoying that'd be to fix...clutch isn't cheap, but might be worthwhile to save 100k miles. 😛

Kindof sounds like the clutch and other stuff could still run you 2-3k though.

Have you test driven one? I'm curious what your driving impressions of it are if you have.

I looked at one once new but didn't drive it. Way too damned expensive new.

I say go for it. I was a freckle away from buying one. Since your handy I wouldn't hesitate.

Maybe your plates should read m3kill3r or something!

Been looking at them myself.

One of them passed me in traffic this morning. I spun the tires in the Crown Vic leaving an intersection hoping he would give me a flyby - and he did. Sounded great. 🙂 Perhaps a bit juvenile of me but I don't do that every day.

I wouldn't mind having one but low miles is a must for me.

Really nice cars, had a buddy that owned an 05 for a few years. Rode in it many times and drove it a few times. Like others have said I would try and find one with less than 100k on it.

Hmm for 10-15k I'd search for a 540i

Legacy GT if you could stay subaru.

The used sport sedan's are either pricey (bmw/mb/audi), or boy racer (EVO/STI)

CTS-V fits the niche, as readily available parts for the drivetrain, luxury image in Cadillac, but there aren't as many out there.

Still if you can get a G8 GT for under 20k I'd just do that.
