Talk me out of a 6MT Chevy SS

The sensible thing for me to buy would be a Subaru or something boring. It makes so much sense it puts me to sleep.

The Chevy SS (2015 or 2016) sounds like the E39 M5 I always wanted as a kid.

Cons-
Chevy build quality is crap. Interiors are still junk- even the newer Malibus look nice at first but after you sit in them for a minute you see through the veneer.

Reliability will not be great.

I've not had a chance to drive the SS but knowing GM it will perform great, but be sort of boring to drive.

Pros-

Screw it, dreams are made to be crushed. Buy it cause you want to. Nothing sucks more than making a 'smart' choice and regretting not having fun later.

I was fairly interested in one but the dealers in my area acted as if it was a status symbol that they could do whatever they wanted with. I would not be surprised if they still had the 6mt on the lot, considering they wanted MSRP plus their BS extras.

Yep, it's a Malibu. Designed and built by Chevrolet. Certainly not by Holden.

The "SS What?" question is fun... for the first 1,000 times you get asked it. Not so much afterwards.

This interior is crap. Don't buy one.

You truly have no clue. The SS interior is amazing. The build quality of the SS is just fine, and there will be no reliability issues whatsoever. This isn't 1985. Handling on GM cars has been off the charts in recent years....pick up any car mag within the past 5 years and see for yourself.

The 2016 SS picked up functional hood scoops, a slightly different front fascia, and dual mode exhaust. There may have been other small tweaks. Very cool car.

I always get a kick out of this guy giggling through his car reviews. Here's the 2015 SS:

It'll be a fine car. Dealer resale will be crap, so you'll likely need to sell this on your own if you decide to get rid of. Other than that, do it!

Depending on your budget...also check out the 2009 G8 GXP..the platform is the same, although the SS has better technology for interior, and slightly better suspension.

Only 1,829 G8 GXPs were made before Pontiac was killed. Less than half of those are manual. 38,444 total G8s were shipped to the US.

Speaking of someone who has no clue...

This is just silly. From a company that a year and half ago that recalled 30+ million vehicles?

GM makes shit cars, period. Fun car to drive, or not, don't sit around spouting off bullshit how GM is reliable and there will be no issues "whatsoever". You have no proof that is true and the 2014 model had several recalls.

Calling out some for "bullshit" when you have no proof yourself. Toyota for a number of years has had a higher number of percentage of total recalls than percentage of VIO. Since 2000, GM recall to VIO is below that of many of the other manufactures.

Again, where is your proof?

There are slight changes for 2016. Nothing major.

I guess that would depend on each person's perspective.

The 2016 is on a different platform (alpha platform from the Cadillac ATS) and loses about 200lbs from the 2015. Lighter, and stiffer than the outgoing 2015 platform.

The interior is generally accepted to be improved, but there could be a lot of personal preference.

The SS now has the option of the magnetic ride control, which is awesome, and the drive mode selector.

To me, that is a big enough difference for me to say no to the 2015.

EDIT: Came back in just to say I hate Chevy's new commercials with that douchenozzle bearded hipster. Sorry to any douchenozzle bearded hipsters that I may have offended.

Too funny! Nice reply. Wrong of course, but nice. It amuses me.

I get people thinking my car is a Camaro when I tell them I have an SS. Then they think I have a Malibu when they see it.
(Hint: It's not a Camaro.)

I don't waste my time anymore. I just nod and smile. I don't really care. SSLEEPR don't care.

You could always buy an e39 M5 for half the price...

It's fun to make BMW owners feel inadequate and ashamed when they get trounced on by a Chevy badged Malibu look-a-like.

That's worth twice the price.

I'm so ashamed my car is outperformed by an 18 year newer platform.

Do you have a '16? Those changes make it a whole lot more compelling. IDK how that other poster can dismiss shaving off 200lbs and magnetic ride control as "minor."

Sorry, I didn't mean to hurt any feelings.

2015. Like I mentioned, this is not a Camaro. It's a different car. Esto no es un Camaro.
