hi guys
guess what happened

well my roomate forgot his dc power adapter thing for his speakers. He unplugged my 15v one from my labtec lcs-2422 speakers
http://www.labtec.com/productdetails.cfm?productid=126

and plugged it into his sub and tried to turn it on. :|

so after it didnt work, i tried to plug it back into my speakers and the sub wouldnt turn back on,

now im pretty sure that the power adaptor blew up

am i right?
and where could i get a sufficent replacement?

i was looking around on the labtec website and they said they "specially make the adaptors or something"

from the website:
Q: Where can I get a replacement AC adapter for my speakers?

A: The power adapters for most of our speakers are specifically designed for the speakers they came with and are therefore not available from other sources.

If your adapter has failed and the product is still under warranty (purchased new less than one year ago), you can contact Logitech support at 702-269-3619 to inquire about a warranty replacement. Please have your receipt available, as you may be required to fax it in as proof of warranty.

If your adapter has failed and the product is no longer under warranty, please contact our Sales office at 1-800-732-3053 to inquire about pricing and availability. Please note, a shipping and handling fee will apply.

so does that mean i cant ( or shouldnt
:):) ) use a differnet adaptor?

hehe, yup if i had to stay in residence and share with peeps, my comp would be locked up tight....perhaps literally as well as security wise :)

Just take your broken one to radio shack and they should be able to sell you an equivalent. All that really matters is voltage and polarity.

Spaceman:

I bought a universal AC to DC adapter from my Home Base hardware store a while back. It was pretty cool in it had a switch on the front that would change the DC output to various levels. It also had a universal adapter for plugging it into a variety of peripherals, you could even reverse the positive and negative polarity of the plugs. I think you could use something like this.

A word of caution about polarity. Look on your Labtech adapter and match voltage AND polarity. On some units the center of the plug is positive, others negative. Most adapters will have this visually marked on the adapters.

Hope this helps, good luck for the rest of your college year.

Another word of caution:

Make sure the replacement adaptor can supply enough current. For example, if your labtec adapter supplied 500mA at 14.5V, it's relpacement must supply at least that much current. If its too small (that is, doesn't provide enough current), your speakers won't get enough power.

Have you tried contacting logitech about a replacement?

Hint Hint....go down do rat shack and look for yourself. they have adjustable adapter that do pretty damn close to 14.5 volts at half an amp. Most of the people that work there only believe in one thing. commission. I used to be one of them ;)
