They didn't have to do the latter, the CIA had already done that, as well as equip them with weapons.

I would like to see your reference to that statement.
In other words, prove it son.

Incredibly, in May the U.S. announced that we would reward the Taliban with an additional $43 million in aid for its actions in banning the cultivation of poppy used to produce heroin and opium. http://www.house.gov/paul/tst/tst2001/tst110501.htm[/Q
I am glad that I was wrong though![]()

I agree with etech (but don't get used to it). This came up before in the "Daddy, why did we invade Iraq?" thread. It was the one "fact" in the story that was clearly shown to be inaccurate. While it was widely reported, it doesn't hold water.Originally posted by: etech

Go back to off topic where you belong.
dahunan,
Thank you for admitting you were wrong. I have seen many people spreading this rumor and have gotten quite tired of it. Even elected officals that should know better than to spread that sort of BS were caught in that misinformation as you pointed out. A rumour once started is hard to stamp out.

The taliban was effectively shut off from most international money. One could argue this led to their reliance on OBL money, but you can hardly blame the world for not wanting to give money to them. Taliban was better than the US tell that to the women and little girls over there who were barred from going to school, having a job, not allowed to be a doctor and not able to see one (cant have a woman showing her body)....
