Tales of Vesperia

I can't wait to get off work so I can go pick it up. It's gotten solid reviews for a JRPG. The only two gripes I've heard are that the translation can be iffy sometimes and that it's not particularly revolutionary. Everything else has been extremely positive.

I really want this game, but there's a lot of games I'm picking up and this one is 60 hours, I dont know if I have time for a game that long.

I'm hoping for a Japanese voice patch sometime down the road.. Amazon decided to be stingy with me on the free shipping and won't ship my copies of Tales of Vesperia and Disgaea 3 until next week. 🙁

No one has the game yet and can give impressions?? My 360 crapped out so its on its way for repair and I was thinking about getting Tales when I get my console back. I've already finished off Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey and Eternal Sonata so I'm ready for a new rpg.

Whether or not it is revolutionary is definitely subjective to the user, but the fact remains that most of the Tales games are incredible with or without anything being revoluationary. There is no need for it to be revolutionary.

Beautiful graphics: check
Fun action/real time combat: check
Deep story line: check (I assume at least)
Good OST/music: maybe

I've only played Tales of Symphonia so i guess I'm not a true Tales fan, but if this game is anywhere near ToS, then I have nothing but high hopes for it.

Sigh. I have two ps3's in my house and barely any jrpgs to play :/
Don't worry, plenty coming in the near future. The US version of Disgea 3 is out today, Eternal Sonata is coming out next month, as well as Valkyria Chronicles in Nov (which looks really promising).

Is there a Japanese audio option with English subtitles?

English voice acting for Japanese video games is almost always intolerably horrible.

should I get into this or FFVII crisis core? Both have real time battles and that's what i like.

Get both.

But ToV will probably be overall better due to it having so much more content.

edit: Also get Eternal Sonata for the 360.

Played it for a few hours last night. I must say, it's one of the best JRPGs I've played in a long time, and better than any other on the xbox 360 as far as I can tell. The characters are extremely likable. The banter between Yuri and Estelle is downright hilarious at times. The story is moving along at a nice pace. I just got to Halure, and the experience so far as been excellent. Minimal load times and a fast pace of battle makes encounters painless and fun.

All in all, a must buy for JRPG fans.

How's the musical score?

The collector's ed. comes w/ a Music OST CD...if it's good, I may get it.

I've played it for about an hour and a half right now (up to the forest) and here are my thoughts:

1) Absolutely beautiful looking game.
2) Heavy, heavy, heavy anime influence on the game in general.
3) Combat system is easy enough to learn, but terribly boring early on. Attack Attack Attack Arte Block. Attack Attack Attack Arte Block. If you run low on TP just have a few encounters because you earn it back with each battle completed and when you attack people.
4) Make sure you hit the back button when you're in the field for some hilarious dialogue.

All I know is that it has a dog with an eye patch and a pipe. How could it possibly be bad with that? 😉

Dude he carries a knife in his jaws.

Man they come out with a lot of Tales games. I have a nice stack of them and I haven't even played off of them, I'll be grabbing this and trying to blow through it before Warhammer Online comes out.

they have to stop with the cell shading. I feel you don't get your money's worth with cell shading. It was a great art style for the DC/ps2/GC which couldn't make high poly graphics so it was appropriate but now it's shallow and takes away from a potentially even greater experience.

I mean symphonia didn't look much worse than this game.

I love cell shading. It is an art style, not like there are many games out there that are cell shaded anyways. It fits perfectly with an anime/cartoon base game anyways since it can look exactly like what it should.
Cell shading always makes going back to older games a bit easier as it can hide flaws/limits, while say a realistic game tends to start looking like dog shit when the next gen comes out.

Ignore CasioTech, apparently graphics is all that matters to him.

He practically wished death and bankruptcy to Capcom because RE5's animations are similar to RE4's.

😛

lmao

Animation and lighting are the two biggest things are severely behind on. They cut some corners and do some nice little tricks to hide the short comings but ugh.

As for RE4/5, what do you expect honestly, RE series always pushed graphics first and foremost. Why you think even non infected people move and act like zombies 😛
