news flash, for any given field, you will always run into idiots. And invariably they make more than you do.
 
eh excel has nothing to do w/software engineering, and he probably hardly uses it so that is okay. i was making a personal budget sheet this past weekend and haven't used excel in probably like 10 years or so. took me a second to figure out how to add formulas and add cells together.

but the java one ... wow. NPE's are like the easiest fucking exceptions to track down and fix.

no he was talking about how a coworker who was in the field for 10+ years did not know what a null pointer exception in java was and didn't know what a stacktrace was when told to look at it to debug it.

then his coworker didn't know how to split cells in excel.

Wait, I thought he didn't know how to DIVIDE cells. Like the mathematical function.
 
It's ok. I've been working with this guy for over a year now, and he expects everyone to fix his errors. Lately, I've just been pretending like I don't know what a null reference exception his so he'll fix his own shit. To top it off, his wife gave me a beeg under the table at the last company happy hour. Now she won't stop calling me. Dunno how the guy puts up with her.
