What the hell are you talking about? The OP bumped his own post, then you quoted him and started ranting about random crap.
I've seen a few people spend HUGE bucks on DSLRs, and shoot nothing with them... NOTHING. They shoot four or five flowers, then it sits on a shelf...

And it's your business what they do with their money because?

Exactly. You'd be better off whining about import cars. Don't know why you came out being a blowhard to the OP.

What is the point of the OP? To go DSLR or not? Which one to buy? How much to spend?

other then the 18-200 the 18-70 is great, its the "Kit Lens" that normally comes with the D70/D70s

the 12-24 is great also but it costs more then the 18-200

its not wide enough, 24 becomes 36 on a DSLR

what would you recommend for a wide angle?

The 18-70 or the 18-200. The 18-55 is an OK performer for a beginner but you'll want more.

<snicker> I can hear the wheels spinning as the OP reassesses the $2,000.00 situation... Tamron anyone?

Dude, you should really go to a camera store and try out all of the latest camera bodies in person. Internet reviews like dpreview are great, but hands on experience is MUCH better. I'd recommend trying ALL of the following models, and buy which one you like best:

1) Nikon D70s
2) Pentax istDS
3) Canon Digital Rebel XT

Digital Rebel XT = too small

My hand got cramped holding it.

Still say E500, check out its review on www.dpreview.com

For the price the 2 lens kit cant be beat from costco. first lens 14-45 and second 40-150 which translates to 28mm to 300mm, both hi grade digital zuiko lenses very nice. Costcos UNBELIEVABLE return policy and only 800 USD.

Trust me at least look at it, and I love the easy user controls on the rear LCD.

Well since I own the Pentax.. I'm going to have to recommend the *ist DS2.
Forget about the D70s little tunnel viewfinder. How are you going to compose with that?
Get the Pentax :)
High quality primes kick any lens butt in terms of image quality and speed - and Pentax's primes are second to none, ok well maybe leica and some of zeiss, but they are prohibitively expensive anyways.
