Taking the leap to Gamefly next month

First, let me say I am actually sad to hear BB is doing horrible and possibly will go bankrupt. My local BBV is great, employees are really nice, etc. Every summer I do the Gamepass ($22/month for 1 game or movie out at a time, switch out as much as you want). I choose this because I live close to the store, so it's a great deal for me.

But, when I start this summer, I've noticed the selection of games is pretty terrible all of a sudden. There are numerous games I want to try that they either don't have anymore, or just never got (some examples: LOTR:Conquest, Wheelman, Riddick Dark Athena, Kane and Lynch, Skate 1, Samurai Warriors 2, DW:Gundam, and others). I know some of those games suck, but just looking for some co-op games to play.

Anyhow, I see that Gamefly is the same price for 2 out at a time, and only $13 for first month. So I'm making the switch. I'd like to give BBV my business, but I don't want to waste my money.

Don't feel bad. If it weren't for the 2 for 1 coupons I get through the Coke Rewards program, I wouldn't go to BB at all right now.

It's been like that out here for years. BB NEVER has anything in stock worth checking out. Too many fking people, not enough copies.

I have 1.5 years in on Gamefly, and couldnt be happier. Of course, I am only ~100 miles from their main distribution center so YMMV.

I have a friend who would literally buy almost every new release(decent anyway) and has 150+ games. He got tired of beating a game in a day or two and losing money from Gamestop so he signed up for Gamefly and said it was the best choice he has made in awhile.

Sounds like the ultimate Gamefly subscriber to me. My problem is it always takes me forever to beat a game so I buy used and sell when I'm done...sorta like renting but a lot less pressure to be efficient.

I hate racing through a game just so I can beat it without any late fees. I didn't spend all that money on a console to not fully enjoy games on it.

Moral of the story: Gamefly

edit: grammar fail.

Thanks for letting me know.
I wasnt sure about game rental services. After looking at Blockbuster this afternoon I think I will do it.
Getting sick of 12 year olds keeping stuff for months at a time.

i have gamefly now but i am canceliing end of month. the service was great for the first 2 months. recenlty they wont send me my top games anymore.

so im going to give it a break now. it was nice while it lasted. new releases can be hard to get. even though i did get killzone 2 day1 release.

The best way to get the top games you want is to only have those games in your queue.

I was with Netfilx for movies maybe a year or so because BB online had very little Blu-Ray. But, waiting for the movies to get there, get back, and dealing with cracked blu-ray or fubared DVD returns before I could even see the flick was taking too long, and didn't always synch up with our family movie night. For games, I was just buying. and if I didn't expect to replay much, reselling, since $7-8 for a 5 day game rental was horse shat IMO.

I decided to give the B&M BB a go when they were offering the unlimited game or movie deal, and it has been excellent thus far. The employees and management are awesome, and a couple could be considered acquaintances now. It works perfect for swapping a Blu-Ray or game whenever I feel like it. The store is only 2 miles away so I can ride my MTB there. If a game or movie blows I can swap it the same day and get another no 24-72hr turn around crap. The PS3 game selection has been lacking but is improving steadily, the 360 section is very good, hell it takes both side of the aisle, and a 1 side of another.

I will be sticking with the B&M until they either alter my unlimited deal to be a poor value or PITA, or close up.

It's mostly due to the quality of games. Gone are the days of yore when a game contained 80+ hours. Now 6-12 hours is considered a production game, and you still pay $60 for it.

I've had a gamefly account for a year and a half and honestly couldn't be happier. Aside from the fact that they don't have a distro center close to me and it can take sometimes 3-5 days to receive a game, I just use a two at a time plan so I always have a game I'm playing (as long as I don't beat it in 3 or so days, but I don't have that kind of free time anymore anyway).

The best part is I pay $22/m. I was paying $50-70 a pop per game before and buying at least one every two weeks. 90% of those games were never played again once beaten and the resale via shitty services like gamestop wasn't even worth it.

thats all i do. ive sat a week without them sending me a game. its a great service when it works. they just sent me an unplayble game. but i fill the report out and they send one out again asap.

overrall my experiance was a+ for the first two months. the last 2 months have been around a C or C+.

I figure most of the games i want to play again are coming out in novemberish so ill prolly restart around then.

it has saved me money. i went to cancel and selected for the reason: i cant afford. they game back and offered 2 out at a time for 15.xx for the month. so i resigned. pretty cheap.

Also if you buy the 3 month certificate you save like 5 or 10%. worth checking out if u want a long term shot.

I had Gamefly for about 9 months (2 games out at a time), but cancelled because I started getting tired from playing games in general. Sometimes they just sat there on the coffee table looking at me lol.

Good things about Gamefly:
-They have a huge game selection compared to your local BB.
-If you decide you want to keep the game...they often have discounts and will mail you the original box and manual.
-If you stay with them for awhile...you'll earn points that can be used towards purchasing their games (eg. 5 bucks off a 15 dollar game).

Bad things about Gamefly:
-Games sent out can take awhile to get to you depending where you live.
-When I first subscribed to Gamefly, they sent me the games on the top of my list. After a few months though...they stopped doing that. I usually had about 10 games on my list with the popular releases at the top. They started sending games from the very bottom of the list when the games on top were of higher availability or even available now. Even when I had only 5 games on the list, they would just send a game that was taken off the list. So, just letting you know that there's a very very high chance you won't get a popular game until it has been out for a couple of months.

That's my take on Gamefly. Your experiences may be diff though. Hope this info helped!
