does anyone know how i could take a screenshot of a scene from a divx file? while i was playing a divx with windows media player 6.4, i pressed "print screen" but when i paste that screenshot in photoshop, it just shows a blank windows media player screen. i also tried "alt & print screen"... same result. does anyone know if it is possible to take a screenshot of a playing divx? if so... anyone know how i could do this?

I just tested to see if it worked in ACDSee, but it does not. Now I am interested in finding out if this is possible. It does work if the divx file is not playing, so just pause it and see if that works.

you can do it if you open the movie in virtual dub and pause at the point you want to take the screenshot.

Pausing doesn't work (for me at least).

If you open it in Virtualdub (or Nandub) as someone else said you can take a screenie that way. Not sure if you can full-screen the video though, so you'll have to do some cropping and it might not be as large as you'd like...

Ok this is weird. I tried it in both WMP and DivX Player and the same thing happens. If I pause it the screenshot works and I can paste it into Paint/Photoshop. But if I go back to the movie and change the position, then check the screenshot I pasted in before, the movie in the screenshot has changed to the new position as well?! Kinda strange. But not really a problem if you just save the picture before messing around with the movie or closing it.

If you have Adobe Premiere, you can open the movie and just export the frame as a jpg. :)

Go back and open the screenshot and there wont be anything there. You need to learn how overlay works. :)

The computer makes the area for the movie a certain color, usually a bright pink. then thew video card renders the video strem, and replaces anything that's bright pink with the video. So, when you press print screen, you get bright pink, but when you view the bright pink in the photo editor, and the vifdeo card is still rendering the videostream (even paused), it renders video over he pink in the photoeditor too, not jsut the video player.
