Going through the manual for my Lumix Gf3 it seems that when taking pictures with the auto-timer it focuses only when the button is halfway pushed down. However if I'm the only one jumping into the picture I won't be in focus when the button is pushed. So I want the camera to focus right before taking the picture but there doesn't seem to be an option for this--or is there one/alternative to this?

The auto timer should autofocus as well. My Canons do.

What AF mode are you using as well as the AF area? Make sure it's not in spot, and it's probably best to use continuous.

You could put something where you're going to be, manual focus on it, and then move it before the shot.
