especially if you can't stick to one way or the other... nothing more tedious than going through 1000+ pictures and rotating them to go right-side up again...

Even if I'm using a Photoshop action to do it - sorting is a PITA.

The SD400 has the ability to show us the picture the right-side up after it's taken vertically... why can't it save it as such also ? :|

if your importing software recognizes exif tags on the jpgs (or whatever the hell it's called) it will have an option to auto rotating during import

my canon A510 does the auto rotate thing when it imports it. I plug in my camera, press the print button the camera where the blue light is, and it just imports all the images. the ones i take vertically, it will display them properly when importing them to my computer and when I open them up in anything.

heh i would assume the SD400 would have done it, but I guess not. heh after reading this, along w/the whole underwater thing, i'm really glad i went w/the A510 instead of an SD series heh :p

Not sure if mine would import it the same way... I don't use the bundled software. I just use an SD card reader to transfer the files over to the PC. Maybe in this case, bundled software isn't so bad after all... :)

I had an ixy which is equivalent to a USA elph sd something.
So if you use the right software your camera should be able to do it. Bundled software's a little bloated... but is a nice start

yea i use the bundled software, and it is probably easier than the SD card reader. With that, you have to take the card out of your camera and put it in the reader. I don't know bout your camera, but with mine i just plug it in USB and push a button on my camera and its on the way to my computer. It creates auto sub directories according to the date of the pictures its taking off my camera.

Get ThumbsPlus from www.cerious.com and you'll never look back. Just select all the pics you want to rotate and hit ctrl-4 or ctrl-6 for counter-clockwise or clockwise and you're done. Plus you get all the other stuff ThumbsPlus does (cropping, resizing, reads and writes lots of file formats, batch processing, batch printing, database functions).

Irfanview with the lossless jpeg plugin. Auto rotate (according to EXIF orientation, if available)

acdsee will also read the orientation bit to auto rotate. breezesystems downloader does t his as well. I was using that until i found out acdsee 7 supported it as well. unfortunately, acdsee's downloading is very weak.. can't customize location very well.

this all of course as alternatives to zoombrowser.. which works fine too, just a bit bulky

Trust me, I know the feeling of having to rotate hundreds of pictures. It sucks.

What??

Windows is not going to cause any quality drop just by rotating a picture. I use this feature and it is really helpful and fast.

It is saved - in the EXIF info. I know that photoshop cs supports it, and so do the major stand-alone gallery packages online (gallery, dabulm, coppermine, etc).

personally i use EXIF viewer to flip through my pics.

Yes it does. On really large pictures, it will even warn you of this.
