Taking my GREs tomorrow

If you finish a section early, you DON'T have to continue on. If you continue on right away, that extra time is lost. But if you just leave it at the last question, you can chill or go walk around or whatever for your remaining time.

Like for me, math was ridiculously easy. We get 45 min, I was done in <20. So I took a nap in the hallway. The 45min writing went by in like 30 min I think, and I just wandered around in the halls for the remainder of my time.

It really bothered me that the GRE doesn't have any builtin breaks, so I created my own... lol. Just make sure you get back to submit your last result!
 
Watch for assumptions in the answers. If the answer is assuming something that is not written, it means "THIS IS THE WRONG ANSWER"
 
concentrate hard on the first 7 questions of each section, as they are largely responsible for what score you get. Also, always finish every section. There are no guessing penalties.
 
A bit late to be asking advice don't you think? I wish a thousand curses and fails upon you. heh
 
Just relax, it's not like this test will determine the course the rest of your life will take. Oh, um, nevermind.
 
Seriously, just take it. No amount of preparation or studying will greatly affect your score. I took a practice exam, then spent 6 months studying, and my score improved by 40 points. Wooo.
 
Relax, basically. The math is easy, either you know your vocab words or you don't, and take some time to think through your essay and you'll be fine.

The GRE gives you individual scores and a cumulative score, depending on grad school, some want just the math score (engineering/science) while others want both, so the OP is correct. It is botth three and one.

This. Computer-adaptive testing (the method used in the GRE) bases your total score, and the difficulty of later questions, on your answers to the first few items in each section. Thus, missing an early item lowers your final possible score much more than would missing a later, more difficult question.

As for studying--it definitely CAN increase your score, assuming you've been efficient and effective in your methods. Memorized the necessary formulas from geometry, and go over as many word lists as you can.

The exact opposite was true for me. I've never been much of a math person as far as standardized testing goes, so I was happy just to break 600 on quantitative. Luckily my verbal score made up for my lackluster abilities in geometry and algebra.
