Any advice (besides the obvious "don't crash/speed/show up drunk")?

And btw, I'm taking it at the Pasadena, CA DMV.

You're making me feel old. My youngest daughter is taking her driving test on Monday, too. Sigh....

Make sure you know yielding rules. I missed some points a left-turn yield (ouch!). Also, speed limit!

Make sure you are watching the speed limit... on a road that our test went on it goes from 55 mph to 45 mph to 25 mph all within a mile... I didn't fail, but I know many that have because of that.

Also, when you are going around a turn, and there is a recommended speed, follow it.

When I took it, I should've failed because I sped twice... but the guy didn't fail me because I did excellent on everything else.

StevenYoo depends on the state, I stopped for a pedestrian that was crossing the street(despite her not being at a cross walk) and I got marked down, I still passed but was a little puzzled at how that crap worked.

You're supposed to run jaywalkers over during your driving test. No one ever told you that?

One of the reasons I failed the first time is because I drove exactly the speed limit (25 mph) the entire way. Apparantly I was supposed to drive 20. If you can, drive through the test route ahead of time. I almost missed a stop sign (docked me twice for that). Take it in an automatic no matter how confident you are in a manual.

1) ensure parking brake works, failed for that
2)don't road rag, failed for that
3)don't accelerate to quickly, failed coming out of parking lot

I'm a NY driver, but hopefully not too far off :p

1. No music while driving.
2. Both hands on the wheel (some testers don't play nice on this unless you're driving a manual)
3. Don't direct traffic. It's necessary to yield to pedestrians, but illegal to wave them on (yes obviously people do this all the time.)
4. Don't be so nervous that you forget seatbelts for you and the tester :p
5. Show some effort at checking your mirrors briefly when they sit down although your mirrors are already well adjusted.
6. Be sure to make it very clear when you're checking a mirror or blindspot.
7. Whenever backing up, make sure they clearly see you looking out the back.
8. Don't forget turn signals (it would suck to lose points on a lot of small things).

watch your stop signs!... also, if your test is in a residential area, do 25-30 mph (but closer to 25)... Dont go too fast, or too slow. By too slow, i mean making turns. Dont make turns at 3mph, but also dont hit turns at 30 mph.. Also, when doing your K-turn LOOK AT YOUR MIRRORS and physically look around. Do this when you're doing your parallel parking too!. Dont FORGET TO LOOK BACK!...

Good Luck! The earliest date I could get for my test is in July so gonna have to wait until then :( ...

A problem I see foresee for my test would probably me maintaing the speed limit of 25 ( which is so painfully slow ) near the DMV. Oh well....

1) ensure parking brake works, failed for that

How do you do that?

I had a question actually... Do you have to maintain the school zone speed limit throughout the day or only when school is in session? ( I live in CT )

Thanks

Well there are no blinking lights in the school zone here. It just a sign ( it has two kids on it ) and thats about it...

So regardless of the lights, it only applies when school is in session, eh?

I'm taking my test on Monday at 7:30AM, so school will probably be starting just then.
