I'll keep this at cliff notes for everyones sake, hoping someone has a great idea that I was to narrow to think of, or took a year off themselves.

Looking to:
-go someplace outside the Northeast
-hold either a challenging/eccentric job, work w/ some comm serve group, or volunteer politically. (ie...I dont want to move to Ohio and scrape by for a year working at CVS)
-be able to function in the place/country with english

Ideas?

Thanx,
Brackis

Edit:
This is prior to matriculation at a 4 year college, 18 years of age with high IQ and a tragicly altruistic perspective on life.

I have settled on taking a year off while I still can, that said I am 100% going back after a year off.

Gotta watch that sh!t. Sometimes the requirements change and then you have to take more classes. Good luck. If it is available, go for it.

Don't do it. Sure third grade is hard, but when you finish you'll have the satisfaction of knowing you made it.

I loved my year and a half in China. I went first as a student then went back as an English teacher. I learned valuable language skills, became immersed in a foreign culture, gorged myself on many things exotic, and met my beautiful wife with whom I am married to for 7 years and have 2 children with. Chinese women are so much better than American woman!

i read that as taking a year off from alcohol and i panicked

anyways, i think you should stay in school and address your wanderlust once you have a degree you can use later

it sounds like for the purposes of what you think you want to do, you really *shouldnt* have a plan

Work.
It'll be nice to be able to pay for 1+ years without having to worry about taking out a loan.

This just isn't a worry for me, but I appreciate you insisting on it, as I would agree that for most people this is a downfall. I feel pretty confident that I will certianly go back to school as I have the option of matriculating at a very nice university next fall, or applying to essentially any college in the US next year; I just am looking for a chance to go away before I commit myself to higher learning.

Ironic, as I suggested this to a ATOT poster a couple of weeks ago after he was kicked out of his house until he got his life straightened out.
