Taking a Shuttle XPC on a plane...

I'm going to take my Shuttle XPC on a plane tomorrow as my carry-on. When I'm going through the metal detector, should I call my XPC a laptop? (they normally ask if you are carring a laptop) or should I just have it go through the metal detector thing? I'm thinking I should call it a laptop. What do you think?

They make you put the laptops through the X-Ray machines too... they just double check and make you turn them on. I dunno.. they might ask to inspect it... which isn't hard since it has like 3 screws on the back.

A roll through the X-Ray machine may be all they need though...

I think you should call it a computer. Airport rent-a-cops maybe be dumb, but they know a "laptop" has "one of them there vid-yah thingamabobs foldin off its top" which the XPC doesn't.

Call it a computer. Albiet a very tiny one, but still a computer. Hey, maybe you'll impress the female guard enough to have her frisk ya. ;)

That's probably what I'll do. I've never taken a laptop, so I don't know what they do to inspect them.

They just pass them through the X-Ray machine from my experience, hope this helps :)

Cool. I assume the X-rays won't damage anything. Thanks for the fast replies. :D

can an X-ray machine mess up a hard drive, I am asking because I am taking my mp3 player through an airport and don't want it getting screwed up.

I would say no from my experience as my lappy has gone through airpost security more than twice and all my data is intact, hope this helps :)

Well, I just told them it was a small computer. The lady at the X-ray machine said "What is this?" and the other guy said, "It's a small computer." She looked at it funny. :)

Cool. I though you were going to end up in jail for "carrying a suspicious electronic device that could be used to make a bomb". :D

If you call it a laptop, their going to ask you where's the monitor?

I thought so too. Security is pretty high there, they were opening people's luggage and looking through them. How long have they been doing that? I was nervous that they would want me to run it to see it working, but I didn't have a monitor or keyboard or mouse (that's at my house now). Everything is working fine. I think I'm going to test the TV out on our TV.
