Take Your Child To Work Day

There are, like, little people all around, who look vaguely like my coworkers.

Not complaining, really. I used to work in an elementary school, so if I couldn't deal...

It's just weird.

I used to take my daughter to work. Sometimes she had to stay in the truck, but other times she could wander around the woods with me.

We don't have an official take your kid to work day here. But I swear once a week our admin staff have a kid or two sitting in their cubes until it's time to clock out. My daughter would get extremely bored here.

We had 60 kids, it's a cluster. Nothing interesting, it's all cubicles and paperwork.

I believe that, at the end of the day, if they asked each kid individually "so what does your parent do here?" the answer would be "They type."

I work with thousands of gallons of heated acid.

I would discourage anyone from taking their child to my work.

This. I've never had a job where one could bring a child. "See that hole over there? If you fall in, the battery on your phone will die before you hit bottom."

This is the part where those of us in IT lay out multiple charger strips with various iPod & Android chargers for the munchkins & then hide from everyone's sight for the rest of the day. "Yes, I'm in an all-day training meeting, there are chargers on my desk, KTHXBYE!" 😀

bigfoot hunter?

I wish. That's much more interesting than surveyor. She had to stay in the truck on construction jobs. The middle of an interstate with big equipment isn't a good place for kids to wander. She went on boundaries with me, and had a good time.

I remember being a kid and going to work with my mom on that day, I went to hang out one of the IT guys. We pretty much talk about stuff they do, and went on a few runs with him to other offices and stuff. Around that same time I remember getting a tour of the telecom central office (same company) with a bunch of other students.

Funny thing is I work in said telecom CO now. It's kinda interesting to walk in all the same places I did once as a kid but actually understand what the stuff is and how it works.

I love it when the military does it. Military kids already know the job's and the base inside out but, it's a great reason for their parents to not have to do any work that day.

No, they dont.
They dont know shit.
They THINK they do, and most of them tend to act like turds on base.
But they're fucking ignorant, and dangerously so.

My daughters wanted to go one year and so I took them. They were the only kids there and everyone just acted like it was really weird that I'd actually brought them. We left right after lunch, and that was the last time I did that.

ours was 3-5pm where people brought their kids 6-16 to our cafeteria. they had games for the kids and free stuff. They gave out kid sized lab coats, small plastic beakers, food, candy, and toys. i heard lots of people went.

I always thought it was a serious oversight that they never instituted a 'take your child back home again day'.

We have a full day event with lab tours, demonstrations, etc. I think there were about 50 kids. Can't wait until mine is old enough to go!

I would imagine a standard office setting would be really boring.
