Mwuahahahahaha!!! Finally...it only took four years, but I've learned how to Beat The Man.

I've had Sprint PCS cell phone service (yeah, I know it's not "cell" but "PCS"...I call it Cell Phone. Bite me) forever.

They have made a fortune off me in extra minutes. Tried changing plans, etc....always went over.

Well, I've learned to NOT make any calls during the day (I'm at work anyway, but I used to use the phone at lunch just to BS)

My billing cycle ends on the 28th. I have 600 daytime minutes. I've used 148 of them.

Know how many "anytime minutes" I've used? 1,936. :D Take THAT, Sprint!!! *sticks middle finger in air*

I despise cell phones beyond human understanding. It is always overpriced and the service is usually iffy. Fvck the c@cksuckers who run them. I hope all their children are born deformed, raving maniacs.

I pay $5 extra for the PCS-to-PCS calling and of the 1100 minutes I was on the phone last month 155 were from the minutes I "paid for." Everything else was nights/weekends or PCS-to-PCS.

I'm sorry; I didn't mean to ignore this question. I'm not the authority, but I'll explain what I know.

It all boils down to Analog ("Cell" phone) vs. Digital (PCS = Personal Communications System)

Cell phones are analog (think 900MHz cordless phones) and are called such b/c you travel in and out of "cells" ie. broadcast areas with diff towers owned by differenet companies...you get the idea.

PCS is pure digital and many carriers can share the same frequencies. Also, you have MUCH more options/features w/PCS like caller ID, voicemail, etc.

That's what I know. Someone please correct/ammend as necessary. :)

install a modem at your home that can act as a gateway for your cell. Then you can call your modem, which will connect to your internal network, thus you do not have to pay their fees for internet access.

:Q More...tell me more. This is interesting...I think I see where you're going w/this. But does the phone support this kind of...fowarding?

They can apply an airtime tax to thoes anytime minutes whenever they want.

When dealing with a wireless company, the joke is ALWAYS on you.

I worked for sprint for 4 years and the premium that U pay for day time mins pays for all the overhead .... eg ... $35.00 for 300 day time mins... where it costs sprint about $11.00 for that bandwidth during the day time @ peak usage.... they run @ 1900 MHz on CDMA network .... as far as data usage they have dedicated data channels running @ 142 Kbps .... they are soon launching EV-Do, capable of 1.5 MBps for $25.00 unlmited data usage .... they will make money on people subscribing to that service bunduled with a high cost mins plan.

be careful if U use UR phone as a modem .... they will catch it in 2 billing cycles and suspend UR data capabilities and if U dial l into a network they will bill U $0.39 a min

That does NOT work. You WILL get charged for "above alloted data" charges. I used my sprint cellphone as a modem one month a TON and they charged my company for it... who told them that if they expect to get the money then we'll cancel and go with verizon. The removed the charges

If you have Sprint why didn't you convert to Fair and Flexible where you bump up to next plan everytime you go over?

fair and flex is $35.00 for 300 mins ..... UR mins increase in 25 min increments and U get charged $2.50 for every incrament of 25 mins .... 325 min = $37.50 ... 350 mins $40.00 and so on

There are no data limits. It's just by minutes alone as I didn't sign up for a data plan. No limits but time and the Treo's battery.

I don't know what you did... maybe using it as a modem is a different category or you had a plan limiting data usage.

EDIT>>> Ahh yes now I remember... it was the Vision plan... unlimited browser usage for $15/mo. (I was still using the free trial period).

Because that only came into existence about 2 months ago.

That said, now that the gf and I both have Sprint I've hardly been using any of my anytime minutes.

You can use the phone as modem. There's no set "limit" but if they see you using the phone as a modem too much they'll disable it.

sprint has calculated a value on how much data U can use with PDA's and if U cross that limit U are told to go to a $30.00 unlimited plan for data and PDA devices and there is no cap to it ..... I have seen people using data cables and using handsets as modems and have racked more than 8 gigs of data usage and were charged an arm and a leg .... sprint uses static IP addresses tied to the handsets electronic serial number to track usage .... hope this gives you some insight .... PM me if U need a specific ? answered
