IMO, it is! I'm compiling an 80's CD and this will definitely be the first track, but what else should I put on there?

What's the name of the song (help Dennis) where it says "I missed the rains down in Africa...", that was a great 80's song too!

Mr Isla would agree with you on Take On Me.

That would be Africa by Toto, no?

How about "Melt With You" by Bad English (I think?)

There's no Police? What about Message in a Bottle or Roxanne? And I do believe Love Shack was from the eighties!

Champ... The song is called "Africa" by Toto.

I always get a kick out of Men Without Hat's "Safety Dance". Hilarous video with the midget. :)

I Ran - flock of seagulls
Harden My Heart - quarterflash

That is ToTo, as the questionably icon'd Isla points out. (and jazar too!)

Yes!

I've seen some changes, and it's getting better all the time.
There's nothing you and I won't do.
I'll stop the world and melt with you
Dreams of better lives the kind which never hate
Wrapped in a state of imaginary grace
I've made a pilgrimage to save the human race
Never comprehending the race had long gone byyy

(From memory so don't flame me for lyric mistakes)

If you were into the British Alternative scene, don't forget Depeche Mode, Erasure, and New Order.

Locutus,

Isn't that Modern English's I Melt With You.

Let's go TP someone's house! ;)

As I recall, MxPx did a version of "Take on Me" just a few years ago. It's got that nice punk feel to it. The original was even better! Great song.

I have some ass laminating to go do for the Borg at my university but I'll be back later this evening with a couple hundred 80s best songs for you (like I did for someone's disco CD). BTW, I rank Take On Me as one of the all time most annoying videos, worse than Cry by Godley and Creme. In the meantime, IMO, the best 80s song is

White Wedding (Billy Idol)

I have an 80's compilation CD and I made Take on Me the first song also...:) I also like Spandau Ballet's True...Melt with You... that one song that goes "I'm sorry but I'm just thinkin' of the right words to say, I know they don't sound the way I plan them to be, but if you wait around a while, something something, I promise you, I promise you I will." :p

Sh!t, dennil just put me to shame, especially in front of my Billy Idol MP3 collection. You got to get Rebel Yell, Damncing with Myself, and Flesh for Fantasy.

Wasn't Stairway to Heaven by GnR, also? I remember in Wayne's World, they had a big sign in the guitar shop (NO STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN) lol.

You guys think you know you're eighties bands? Take this quiz and see.

I got 70%. Barely passed. Just like in the eighties! :) ... and the ninties, etc :(

Isla,

Oops, didn't see your post, wasn't trying to correct you. I must have sounded like a jerk. Sorry

Gunners? Stairway? Whaa?!?!

I like the Reel Big Fish version of "Take on Me" better :) Billy Joel's "The Longest Time" is another great 80's hit :)

Spelling corrections: it's actually "Reel Big Fish", "Spandau Ballet", and "Led Zeppelin". :) Don't want anyone doing an incorrect search anywhere. ;)

Indeed, and MxPx also did a version of it. ;) I wondered myself until I found it in my MP3 collection - I'm playing it right now ...

:D
