Take medicine to prevent getting sick?

So my g/f is sick with a cold right now (it's pretty nasty, she had to get antibiotics today because she also has an earache now)....she keeps telling me to take medicine so that I DON'T get sick...she's been sick for a few days and I still feel fine. What do you guys think? I guess it couldn't hurt, but taking medicine when it's not needed doesn't seem necessary.

I have pretty good luck with eating healthy...not starving myself and making sure I get plenty of rest. I dont think i've taken any medicine in a year or two now.

What kind of medicine are you talking about? If you are talking about taking antibiotics to not get sick I want to thank you on behalf of my great great grandkids and all their friends who are going to die from some super strain of bacteria.

I recall the news recently saying that that stuff does nothing.

You shouldn't take preemptive medicine like tylenol to fight a possible illness because it won't do anything.

What "medicine" is your GF recommending?

Eat plenty of fruit, rest enough, etc.
Common sense should be enough. Pre-empitive medicine???

She wants me to take Zicam (which I bought for her when she got sick)....I just don't think it's necessary

Good good, there was much ambiguity in your first post.

Cold medicines just treat the symptoms, not the problem itself. it'd be pointless to take medicine. Just get plenty of rest, fluids, vitamins.

exercise helps immensly. By running a couple times a week you boost your immune system, and you are generally in better health overall.
