Who cares about the work, it's the women who are going to have to raise the repopulates!

Stupid idea in this day and age. The world has enough people as it is.

The greeks during Socrate's time asked their male citizens to take an additional wife after the Pelopenesian war to repopulate. Since we are marrying later and having fewer children and aborting about 2,500 children per day, it makes sense that in a generation or two there won't be enough peeps to work or fight for their country.

I'm thinking ahead with this idea, that there will be a need to increase the u.s. population the natural way, and I don't mean by immigration.

So, are you willing to take another wife or is this notion a bit aheead of it's time?

You do understand that Athens lost 60% of its male population in the Pelopenesian War...we're nowhere close to that.

Yes, this I understand. I'm only suggesting a possible solution to a problem that is controversial. Heck, are you willing or not?

No, but that's because of my personal beliefs. I'm sure there are many who would be.

Um, k. That strikes at the heart of my premise, that there is a need in fact for growth. However, are we willing to depend on immigration for our growth? Is that the type of growth we, as a nation are looking for? I'm not suggesting that we close the borders but perhaps place more emphasis on "growing from within."

Except for the fact that the Earth is barely able to sustain the amount of people on it right now, and that it's a GOOD thing we are producing less children than in the past... It's a great idea.

That is liberal environmentalism propoganda hogwash. The Earth could support 50 billion people and still be okay. Just the U.S. food supply alone can feed everyone person in the world 7 times over. Most of the world's land is still wilderness, and with today's technology the ocean itself is habitable which makes up most of the world.

Well, that's a lot of made up statistics. Most of the world's land is uninhabitable wilderness (unless you want to move a few hundred million people to Anarctica and see how many survive). And what exactly is this technology that enables us to live in/on the ocean? Are we all going to live on the Love Boat?

Food isn't the issue, it's fresh water. Much of the world already faces a problem with reliable fresh water supplies, and the problem is only going to get worse. In our own country, the southwest is looking for alternate sources for water as with the influx of people there, their supplies will soon be inadequate. They are going to look to the Great Lakes, but the Great Lakes states are going to say no.

We already have created "artificial habitable" areas in this world that are draining resources from other areas. If we, as you say, had 50 billion people in this world, I'd say a good 1 billion of those would be in danger of dying of thirst on any given day.

why growth from within? A person is a person is a person

Yes but cultures and beliefs vary from nation to nation. The idea is to keep the fundamental beliefs and culture the same after all that is what makes a nation.

I was told a story once.
There was a couple celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary. Everybody was gathered at their house for the event. The husband was in a sad mood. As the day wore on he got sadder and sadder. Finally one of his friends asked him what could be wrong on this great day. The husband tearfully replied. Fifty years ago her father caught us fooling around in the hayloft. He gave me a choice, I could spend the next 50 years in jail or I could marry her. I just got to thinking today I would have been a free man! Think about it times two. 😀 :

http://geography.about.com/library/weekly/aa051800a.htm

The world's current (overall as well as natural) growth rate is about 1.3%, representing a doubling time of 54 years. We can expect the world's population of 6 billion to become 12 billion by 2054 if current growth continues. The world's growth rate peaked in the 1960s at 2% and a doubling time of 35 years.

Imagine the world being twice as crowded in 50 years. What fun! Fun++ for Los Angeles freeways!!!

* Sex. In a 2001 survey, condom maker Durex found that Japan ranked dead last among 28 countries in the frequency of sex: The average Japanese had sex just 36 times a year. Hong Kong was next to last with 63. (Americans ranked No. 1 at 124 times a year.)

😀

Seriously. OP, you can't seriously think that there needs to be more Americans do you? We are so far from a shortage it's insane

we need less people, not more.

first you'd need to invade a country and kill all their men so you could take their women. also having slaves helps.

Not willing to take another wife (debt x 2), but willing to knock up a hot chick for the sake of my country (assuming wife #1 agrees, which would NEVER happen!)

We have been invaded. Idealistically, we are breeding less as a country. My concern is that there won't be adequate workers to sustain our growth.
