Taiyo Yuden DVD-R $0.27/Disc Shipped

In my case (NEC ND3540A) these are burning at 12X with DVD Shrink . Im happy. Also my older Toshiba DVD player is happy with them too! ......my $0.02
 
read the customer reviews. A lot of their customers actually received TYG02 or TYG03 discs and those are 8X and 16X media. That make it a great deal.
 
i have these and i burn them at 16x on my nec, these are the best dvd media of all out there, Taiyo Yuden the name says it alone
 
In for 1....(200 discs!) Have used these for over ayear and the only time I get a coaster is when I screwup!! Thanks darkrain!
 
they are the best media out there, no question about it, and even burning at a higher speed than rated, you still get very good scan result.


It is also the most widely supported media out there, even you have a crappy BTC burners, you still get good result

How is the physical quality of these DVDs? I bought some no-name TY CDRs once and I wasn't really happy with the quality of the top surface. Hardly any coating, very easy to scratch.
 
What type of shipping do they use for "ground shipping?" I'm in Berkeley, CA. Is the shipment trackable?
 
I had it out with them after I had to return 300 of these because they shipped TYG03 instead of TYG01. After I threatened to tell every other videographer on the videography forums that they were using false advertising, they decided to change the Media ID in their ad to TYG01, TYG02. or TYG03 for those who order this media. If you look at the comments, it has been going on for awhile since TYG01 became unavailable.
To a videographer the TYG01 had the best compatibility to date when authoring DVD's. To the average buyer unfortunately the response to receiving the wrong media was,
"Dude, I paid for 4x media and scored 16X media"....... not knowing any better.
You will not get TYG01 if that is what you are looking for. The only 4X media left is Arita (Ritek G04). I called Meritline. Same thing. 4X media is virtually unavailable.

What writer do you use to authorize DVD? Don't you need special DVD for authorization, the old TYG01 can be used ?




 
Authoring means collecting audio, video, menus, subtitles, etc into an interactive branching structure that will eventually become a playable DVD. You need DVD authoring software to make a playable DVD. Software such as Apple DVD Studio Pro, Sony DVD Architect, TMPG, Cinemacraft, Canopus Procoder, etc. are all DVD authoring software. There are also hardware encoders, but they are very expensive.

The part where the media type becomes important is when you burn the actual DVD and then duplicate more of them. Although things such as bitrate, software type, burn speed, and even whether or not you use a label or not all affect the compatibility of the final DVD with standalone DVD players, etc. ; the biggest factor is the media itself and the burner (AND it's firmware). I use a Pioneer 105 to burn them on the computer and if I have a lot (usually the case) I use a duplicating tower I built that consists of eight NEC ND-3520A burners.

TYG01, MXL RG02, and Ritek G04 have been the media ID codes that have had the most consistently compatible results with most or all DVD players (even older ones and Sanyo's which seem to be amongst the worst). They are all 4X media ID's and are virtually all unavailable now except for Arita Ritek G04. Even Ridata doesn't make Ritek G04 any more.

8X media has not been as compatible and certainly 16X media has been the worst. And that is after trying varying burn speeds. If you need a reasonably compatible 8X media get one with a media code of MCC 02RG20 (for -R) The generic Verbatim DVD-R sold by Newegg USUALLY has that ID code or YUDEN000T02 (for +R) SOME Fujifilm DVD +R media has this ID.

I understand why the industry has done it. It is marketing.......faster is supposedly better. To the average individual ripping movies that may work. To those of us trying to make a living selling single layer DVD's that play on every customer's player it is becoming a nightmare. DL media, by the way is very expensive and certainly not ready for prime time despite the fact that many burners can burn them. The media itself stinks regardless of media ID.
 
Thanks for that explanation craftech....I can see burning at a faster rate could lead to more errors or perhaps more unreliable discs but I had never thought about media CAPABLE of faster burn speeds BUT still having data burned at a slower rate (4x) being more unreliable.....this will be interesting to see the results....might tuck away my older Blank DVDs for special stuff.
