Hello,

I have the Asrock Taichi Z370 board with an 8700K overclocked to 5 Ghz. I have two sticks of GSkill Ripjaws DDR4-3200 CL14 memory, running at the rated speed. If I add another two sticks of DDR4-3200 CL14 RAM (looking at the Team Dark Pro 3200 b-die which is on sale at Newegg), how big of a performance hit should I expect? I could be wrong, but I'm guessing that if I run 4 sticks as opposed to 2, I'm probably going to have to relax timings down to CL15 or so. Thoughts?

It's always recommended to run the same RAM in all slots, but if you decided to run different RAM, it might be able to run at CAS 14 as well, or you might have to relax the timings some. The only way to know for sure is try it, or find someone who has the same mixed RAM on the same motherboard.

However, Intel is not nearly as sensitive to RAM timings as Ryzen is, so you would not really see any "real world" differences going from CAS 14 to CAS 15 (if you end up having to do that).

Yeah, that’s what I was thinking. The benchmarks I reviewed showed very little frame rate difference between RAM latencies.

I’ll probably hold out and see if 16 GB CL14 sticks become reasonable and just replace my current 8 GB ones. I have a Ryzen box I can put the 8 GB ones in.
