Since starting law school I have started to go somewhat crazy, and I need something to balance my life. I want to start learning a martial art, maybe Tai Chi, but maybe something different if it fits me better.

Does anyone know or have contacts with martial artists in Los Angeles? Could you help me start my search for a teacher?

You typically see Tai Chi being practiced for relaxation, it's very popular among older people, like yoga (there are some faster, more practical forms). If you want an art that is similar but more energetic and practical, Shaolin Kempo Karate (kung fu) is a good choice, and Tae Kwon Do offers similar benefits. If you want a more practical atmosphere, jiu-jitsu (jujutsu/jujitsu) is becoming pretty popular, and then there is boxing/wrestling. I have never been to Los Angeles, but I would definitely get a first-hand opinion of the place before you sign up there. Make sure to ask around, too. Good luck!
