Tagan Icy Box (Trayless SATA Rack) - $15.99

I've got one of these, and it's really handy for doing backups or if you have multiple OS drives. Just pop the SATA drive in, no need to install the HDD in a tray. Might also be useful for servers.

This is mainly a good deal if you live in Palm Bay, FL (i.e. use Will Call), or if you need a bunch of them. The shipping is a tad much if you only need one. MicroCenter also had these (Kingwin-branded) for $19.99 recently.

Cheaper than that new Thermaltake "Blax" dock thing, and no USB interface handicap.

NewEgg has Athena rack for $14 + $4.99 shipping. If you need only one and cannot do in store pickup that would be better...

The one at newegg does not appear to be trayless which is the cool part of the whole thing. I have a startech one. Works fine on my HP 5700 but makes my Dell Optiplex 745 not shutdown until I remove it.

Yeah, I'm not sure who's the original company behind the design, but I've seen several OEMs that make identical ones to it, including StarTech as you mentioned, plus Kingwin and Tagan. I have one each of the Tagan and the Kingwin, and they're 100% the same. Thermaltake has one too, but with a silver door instead of all black.

Those all look like pretty much the same thing, cosmetic differences aside. I'd probably get one for the heck of it if I can find it under $20 shipped.

No, these use just the BARE drive. You're thinking of ones that use trays.

I'm kind of baffled as to why NewEgg has four different models of the exact same thing . I guess the Thermaltake one makes sense if someone has a silver case. But all you're getting with the other three is possibly a different logo. You're paying extra for that "Connectland" logo on that Syba .
