TAG Heuer RACER

pandemonium

The price tag is about all that will attract sales...from the super rich @$3,700US. 😱

That reminds me of some gold-plated fashion-gadget status-whore dumbphones from a few years back that used to sell for some ridiculously high price.

Tag Heuer is the ultimate poseur name brand. Their watches are advertised by rich and famous celebrities like Tiger Woods and use generic mass produced ETA SA movements while selling with a huge markup.

Granted most luxury items have big markups, this is an obvious one.

This phone is for the same gullible people.

Er, what? I'll admit I'm a Tag Heuer owner, but your statements are pretty much all wrong.

  1. Re-finishing Ebachues sourced from outside suppliers was the norm in the industry, even for Audemars Piguet, Breguet and Patek Philippe (supplied by Jaeger LeCoultre, Frederic Piguet and Lemania). This is because historically, a company either made watches or movements. In fact, Swiss laws set in place after the Depression forced members of Ebauches SA to stop making complete watches
  2. Swatch bought up all traditional movements makers
  3. Tag now make three or four unique movements

Having a nice watch is like having a nice car or a decent computer. You don't 'need' it, but there is enjoyment and pleasure from owning it. I'm not sure where your hate for owners of expensive things comes from, but it's an ugly emotion.

All that being said, I think the phone is ugly.

we learned about TH in marketing class.
worthless company making cheap watches that nobody cares. then they jacked up the price and all of a sudden suckers think it must be "worth it."
the phone looks thick! for $4000, it better be 4mm thick or GTFO

My dad has been working on watches for over 25 years. I've been working with him for 4 years. Tags are a joke. But, their business practices are even worse than the watches.

I have a Tag and was curious about what you said. I dont really know anything about watches, mine was a gift. It appears they do make their own movements now, though it seems for a long stretch of time they didnt, and it seems they made there own in the past before they used nothing but ETA.

Their movements are a joke. My friend has been a watchmaker for 40 years and he hates tags with a passion. Plastic gears and craptastic movements. You want a good watch? Rolex.
