I have this on my 2G iPhone, and it works great. Does not seem to affect battery life at all. I'm still going about 2.5 days between charges with moderate wifi use to check email and sometimes AT forums.

The only downside is that you can only get it from Cydia right now, but like many other third party apps this should eventually hit the app store.

Basically, it makes the phone vibrate whenever you enter a character or hit a number on the dial pad. Quite useful because you know you actually hit a key.

I don't think this is ever going to work without jailbreaking the iPhone because Apple officially does not allowed any apps running in the "background," while jailbreaking the phone removes that limitation.
