Oh well, we knew it had to happen sooner or later. The prices on many of their lights has went up a few bucks each for '06. For instance, the G2 is now $36 up from $34, the 6P is $59 up from $56, and the 9P is $79 up from $75. Really, the increase isn't too bad considering the fact that the prices previously had been that way for a really long time.

Where its going to hurt us Surefire fans is the batteries - a whopping 40% increase. Booooooo...... Still not terrible considering what they cost in stores - between 6-8 bucks EACH.

Even though you may be able to find the batteries cheaper around the web, I personally recommend against it. I support Surefire for many reasons.
1) American company - even their batteries are made here.
2) Their products are the shizzle.
3) Great company overall - excellent service.
4) They support our troops. They are constantly giving our soldiers free gear by the pallet load.

No, I'm not a rep for Surefire either.

Their 2006 catalog should be out any day now - it will also be available as a .pdf download.

Dorcy Spider...

I think this is one of the best short use flashlights ever.
It gets kinda hot and the batteries rune out fast, but it is blindingly bright for short uses.

3D cell? Good grief that thing is HUGE. Not very practical for every-day-carry. Has a nice tight been though. Hmm, thanks for the link. I have some Lowes gift certificates I need to spend, maybe I'll find one in there. Looks like it would make a good keep-in-the-car light.

I carry it every day.. in the car. I always have it when I need it, which is when doing stuff outside at night. Works great for geocaching and such.

They admire them and post about how bright the light is, but they can't use them or they'll have to pay for the one use, toxic lithium batteries. Tactical flashlights are for flashlight enthusiasts... in other words people who don't really need light, at least not for long periods of time, or have more money than sense.

Not exactly... but many of them are designed to be mounted on a weapon. Flashlights like the Surefire are also bright enough to temporarly blind a suspect, giving you the ability to take the first shot.

What the HELL is everyone's obsession with flashlights? It's a FLASHLIGHT. You can't do anything cool with it, except perhaps light up a bright room or whack somebody in the head with it. Why spend so much money on a flashlight when you could get the $3.79 floating lantern special and a baseball bat at walmart? What good is it that you're going to spend all this money on it? The things that Americans will spend money on make me sick.

Well, maybe some people like their flashlights to be high quality instead of department store crap and as bright as they possibly can!

Meh, some of us (not many) have to carry a flashlight on our belt, or overseas on our vest... a D cell does not do the job.

There are flashlight enthusiasts? Do they have their own magazine and stuff?

I don't know about print magazine, but there are various websites around the net in regards to them.

My Target flashlight is brighter than a 3D Mag with 4x as much battery life, and the beam pattern is great. The Luxeon LED can theoretically be upgraded from 1 watt to 3 watt. And it only cost $22.

Good grief dude, relax! Have a prozac or something! There ARE worst things people could be spending money on....

Next time your somewhere really dark and creepy, or during an extended power outage, etc. I'll bet you will wish you had a better light than a crappy store model.....

I've got a 6v lantern that I've modified to take a rechargable 7.2v NiCad pack. It's lighter and brighter than the original, fairly rugged, and almost free to operate. It does everything I need, and I can operate it indefinately during an outage thanks to the charger that runs off of 12v.

I just don't see why someone would spend more than $20 on a flashlight unless they use it several hours per day.

Flashlights are just more gadgetry for those who don't get it. Check out a Surefire in person and you will all of a sudden find a need for one, lol. I find my flashlight very handy to use on working on systems too. ;)

If I was a Marine or SWAT team leader, I sure as hell wouldn't want to depend on a $3 flashlight that would probably die if I dropped it or got it wet. Surefire's products called "tactical" flashlights for a reason... they're built to military grade specifications for durability.
