Good thing Gariott made all his money off other games, and hope he had fun in space spending alot of it.

Garriott made a shitload of money when he merged(sold) his new company to NCSoft.

Any wonder why Garriott left the video game industry last week? His pet project was about to be shut down.

Actually, I firmly believe he was the reason it stayed up as long as it had. Once he decided to jump ship, there was nothing holding PlayNC back. Otherwise it likely would have died about 6 months ago or more.

Blizzard could make World of Starcraft, and it'd sell millions.

Because Blizzard actually knows how to make games, unlike almost every other PC dev. In fact, Valve is the only other good PC dev I can think of.

thats kinda farfetched

i mean yes blizzard and valve make great games

but there are still comanies that make good games

bethesda did a great job with oblivion/fallout (i think)

Id did a good job with Doom 3

Maxis used to make great games until EA came in with its wrecking ball.

Perhaps I generalized a bit too much, sorry.

However, I do believe that Blizzard and Valve are the only two companies that continuously release nothing but quality. Other companies release good games from time to time, or get lucky and have a hit, but no one else has the same 100% track record that Blizzard and Valve do.

Bethesda has had a pretty damn good track record. Maybe not everyone likes Oblivion/Fallout 3, but you can't say they are bad games per se. Stardock also tends to kick ass.

Oh I LOVE the Bethesda RPG's. Keep in mind that the Bethesda brand name is on all those measly little racing games too :p

I once looked at this game but passed. Sad to see it die within 15 months of release.
These types of games failing is bad for the market because it sends a signal to the publishers that fantasy wins. The next game up is Warhammer 40K and KOTR for sci-fi type MMORPGs.

I can't wait for freaking Diablo 3.

This was a year of disapointments starting from AoC and Spore and ending with this.

I won't be surprised if Age of Conan is soon to follow.

Honestly. However I can only stand so many kiddies running around yelling "pwnd!" in their robe and wizard hat all named some variation of Gandalf or Aragorn.

Hehe WoW kiddies get everywhere unfortunately, anyway its sad when a half decent MMORPG goes down the tubes, especially a SCI-FI one.

Those of you saying that sci-fi isn't as popular (it may not be, but that isn't the point), etc need to realize that all of these sci-fi MMO's that keep dying (Earth and Beyond, TR, Planetside, surely SWG soon) suck absolute ASS. There are plenty of sci-fi fans out there. If Blizzard made "Universe of Starcraft" I would promptly cancel my WoW subscription and play the hell out of it.

EVE-Online is still expanding...

However, with EVE it's either a love or hate thing.

I'd like to see something done inthe industry to better handle the players for these games with low numbers. People invest a lot into the games of their time.

It can't be that expensive to keep the game simply running in a 'maintenance mode' without new content or marketing.

It'd be nice to see a commitment to a minimum time to keep it running, like 3 or 4 or 5 years, at least - and releasing the rights for private servers to let players keep playing.

I put on my wizard robe and hat.

Tabula Rasa had too many chiefs pulling in too many directions. It spoiled the brew. The game ended up being far from the original Garriot ideas. Of course, Garriot hasn't produced a good game in a decade or so, either. He micro manages too much, gets hung up on minutiae, and can't get something out on time and under budget.

TR ended up being an ugly camel.....
