new option to join beta:
pre-order the game

pre-ordering doesn't force you to buy, and at places like Gamestop, you only have to pay $5 to pre-order, and if you decide to buy the game, that's $5 off the price of the game since you technically put 5 down. and you get a pre-order bonus pack, complete with dvd with the game-client and random bonus art. but you get two 'emotes that are exclusive, and the ability to have one of two non-combat pets always at your side, starting at bootcamp (tutorial).
oh, and beta access starting immediately (open beta starts later, current closed beta is still going on at the moment).

im level 4 at the moment, basically just started.. and it's great so far. I think I may truly enjoy this, a nice mix between a typical MMORPG and a game like Planetside. A winner in my book, at least until Huxley comes out, a true full-out MMOFPS. But this sounds deep enough to keep me hooked.

Honestly, more than I expected at this point! I played for a couple hours today, and while I'm currently a total noob in the game, it did not disappoint me. Being a Planetside veteran, this is not entirely an MMOFPS, as you still have the whole "lock on and fire away" thing. But it's close enough to FPS that it holds true. To be honest, this game feels a lot like Halo. But so far, it's definitely a keeper! More than just a simple button-mashing WoW clone, and not quite an "I'm a spaz"-FPS...

Now if only PlayNC had something similar to a StationPass subscription...

I'm wondering what the subscription charge to this game will be.. hopefully not the $15/month like every other game wants to charge these days.

Awesome!! I have free Fileplanet because with 8MB Comcast I get IGN Insider for free, it's really nice extra feature, I am downloading game guides for free .pdf all the time. And this got me through for a beta key, downloading now!!

What don't you like about it?

Edit: Nevermind, I read your bolded comments in a previous post.

Because it's a refreshing change of pace from the likes of the craptacular environment of World of Whorecraft and it's clones?

There are certain things you will NEVER... EVER get away from with any MMORPG. Tabula Rasa is an MMORPG... not an MMOFPS like Planetside was. TR uses certain game mechanics of an FPS, but it most certainly is not an FPS.

Either way, the elements of being an RPG are in full force... character development, "questing", social environments (ie: clans). The interface style is a hybrid RPG/FPS type. You do NOT simply sit there mashing 1... 1... 2... 3... 1... 1... while doing nothing. And you most certainly just stand there and kill things unless you plan on being gang-raped in the process. I constantly find myself moving around, finding cover, and using it. It DOES make a difference.

This game is by far more promising than most of the recent MMO launches to date (read: Vanguard). And it's refreshing to see an environment without frigging elves and dwarves!

I said "awesome" for the chance to download it.

Unfortunately, I cannot PLAY it. On my 4GB Vista 64 system, i get "loading intelligence" or something then the game completely disappears. I can't call it a "CTD" because there's no error, and there's no BSOD for sure! The game just vanishes. I got through creating a character.

Looks like I don't know if I like this or not.

The door is wide open for good Sci Fi MMORPG, WoW or not. Though I haven't played Anarchy in years.

Got the demo and played it for about 5 minutes yesterday afternoon. I'll be playing it more this next week. All I did in the game was make a character and launch into the boot camp scenario. So I'm pretty much a green horn right now.

I'm getting sick of it. I'm not a big fan of MMOs, but I really enjoyed Earth and Beyond and EVE, both of which I played through the beta. This game is somewhat decent, but it has a few quirks that really kill it for me. How much of this can we discuss (given that it has NDA and whatnot)?
