Tabula Rasa is Free-to-Play a month early.

They were going to start TR as F2P in January, however for whatever reason they opened up the servers this week.

I'm thinking if they get enough interest in the Free to Play model, they may keep a server going with some sort of micropayment system. This would be a good thing, as TR is unique enough to be fun on a casual basis.

It still is planned to shut down, they are just making it free before they do

It's a gentle mix of FPS and MMO. It's still a "turn-based" MMO type of game, but feels more FPS-like.
