Tablet Reviews

Well, I don't see a Tablet forum so I'll just ask here.

Does anyone know of a site the does some comparison reviews of Budget Tablets? I'm not talking the Xoom or iPad or anything like that. I'm talking about the off name ones that are generally a lot cheaper but still decent for a non-power user.

Something like the Archos 101 or something similar. Looking for one for my elderly father-in-law so he probably wont' be watching tons of movie or playing high power games.

what WILL he be using it for?
a hacked used nook color may be all he needs.

or you could wait and check out the kindle fire which will be 199.

B&N is also releasing something new on Nov 7th, maybe a nook color 2

He'd be using it for the internet, email, a few apps like ScotTrade and maybe some card games. He has an old Dell laptop that he uses every now and then but we figured a tablet would be more accessible for him.

But we not going to drop the money for a $400+ tablet since he won't get that much use from it.

The "budget" tablets suck. It's an excersise in futility to get one. I have a $180 SuperPad III that is completely useless. If you ever try a name brand tablet, then one of those non namer Chinese knock offs, you will throw the no namers against the wall.

Just remember, this is for someone who has never used a "good" one so as long as it works well and does what it's supposed to, he'll be fine with it.

I know they aren't as good as the $500+ ones but I'm not expecting them to be.

Even being cheap, most budget tablets are a waste of money. You wont use it nearly as much as you think. It will be annoying and you'll stick it in a drawer and forget about it.

It sounds like you may be better off with a Kindle Fire, cheap TouchPad or possibly a Transformer. The latter isn't that well-priced, but I'm assuming that we'll see more sales when the Transformer 2 is officially announced/unveiled on November 9th.

I don't see anything promising about it. Most of the people that extole the virtues of these cheap tablets, haven't used a good one.

Maybe tonight I will make a video of a side by side by side of my iPad2, Asus Transformer, Acer Iconia (GFs) and cheap POS Android Tablet.

I've got mine, for what I paid, $137 on sale, shipped it's awesome. No it's build quality is not the best, (plastic case) but can you expect that at at an entry level price? processor, graphics and video are all fast, no game has yet to make it lag, 6+ hrs, battery life, whats the point of comparing it to a tab costing $500+?, none..
