Tab S 10.5 noticeably faster than Tab Pro 10.1

I just upgraded from a Tab Pro 10.1 to a Tab S 10.5 for the screen. (Well worth the upgrade alone)

To my unexpected surprise, The Tab S isn't running the same Rom. Although both based on 4.4.2, the Tab S has some different UI colors but to my surprise the Rom itself is noticeably smoother. Scrolling is better, apps load a smudge quicker and things just overall feel snappier.

Would this be the extra GB of ram benefiting the Tab S? Or did Samsung just optimize the Rom better?

Both have the same Exynos 5420 Octa-Core chipset. Both have 2560x1600 screens. The ram (3GB vs 2GB) and screen tech are the only difference hardware wise.

Anyways, it was a pleasant surprise. I'm not sure TouchWiz has felt this snappy to me before on any device.

Maybe tweaks on Touchwiz, maybe new stepping Exynos, or both?

Which one has a longer lasting battery in your experience?

Newer version of TouchWiz (Natural UX 3.0) got tone down some what. My TabPro 8.4 and Note 4 is really snappy.

The Galaxy Tab S is pretty slow for regular web-surfing and just general use. It is really only good for watching videos (which is a big part of tablet use).

If the Tab S is faster than another product, that other product must have been unbearably slow.

Its not slow at all. Its noticably quicker than the Tab S 10.1. I can probably capture it quite easily. Web Browsing is smooth. The Octacore Exynos does well with browsing I thought? (with benchmark suites)

I can directly compare this to a Nvidia Shield, Tab S 8.4, Tab Pro 10.1, Nexus 7 2013, Nexus 10 for Android Devices. I still have all of them in my house right now except the Shield and Nexus 10.

How did you like the Shield?
