Now I've remembered what I was going to say :D
Think you'ld go for Rosetta,
Seems similar(ish) to D²OL and FaD, but has an enthusiastic project leader (same as FaD, but even more) who talks to people on the forums :D
This project seems to be becoming a favourite (brit spelling :p )

Well... to be perfectly honest... I'm a bit disappointed that our FaD numbers seem to be fading with 5-6 weeks still left in the project... and maybe it's just my imagination... but I guess that's the people's choice... hard to stay excited about a project that has a very visible and imminent ending point I guess. I'm going to stick it out to the end I think, however if it remotely appears that there is no reason to continue because the results are not worth anything, I wouldn't have a problem moving on. To where? I don't know... again, to be honest, I haven't researched the projects... I know what kind of work I'd like to do, if I'm going to continue supporting a DC project, but at this time I don't really know... been struggling with the decision a bit over whether to continue doing DC or not... :( I've had the immense privilege work being TeAmmate to a lot of wonderful people and the comraderie, and the support from the, has been simply awesome. Obviously, I'm just rambling here, and I'm not going to edit this... I think it best illustrates where my head is at the moment concerning my involvement with DC in general, and my affinity for the people here on the TeAm... I guess as the time gets closer, and I read more testimonials from people, I'll make a decision!

I do appreciate you calling me out, though, and giving me a chance to purge some of what I've been tossing about in my head for the last couple of weeks...

And 'favourite' is the only proper spelling of the word that I know! ;)

Although I no longer contribute heavily to FaD, I will be moving my last machines off of the project soon. My reason? I will not have another chance until after the project ends. And I hate to see cycles being wasted ;) Perhaps that is where others are too?

Knowing the energy you put into the projects you support, I'm not surprised you're disappointed, D²OL, and then FaD.
At least FaD always kept us in touch, up to the point where they decided they had covered more molecules than they started out with and had decided it was time to come to an end.
You've been an excellent TeAm-mate, since I joined AnandTech with the D²OL TeAm ( I have the web page saved :D )
You've also been a brilliant personal friend even though you're 3 or 4 thousand miles away, how do you get around that ???????
If you want to keep up with the DC, I would recommend BOINC/Rosetta

I'm staying with FaD til it ends, and then switching over to another project. Any possibility that TAS can crunch FaD again for the first half of December? I would like to see TeAm FaD still in 5th when it ends, or at least put up an effort...

Edit: Nevermind... The point cushion will probably be enough to remain in 5th.

I will keep two of my three computers running on FAD until the end, I have to change my home computer over to rosetta after thanksgiving as I will be out of town for 7 weeks after that...and as Mrwizer said, hate to see wasted cycles.

I want to see the TeAm end up in 5th and the RA stay in the top 50.

Except for a handful (3-5) computers, I will be staying with FaD until the jobs run dry or the 16th ... whichever comes first.

I do not feel the need to immediately embrace a new project. I think the reason that some folks are bailing is they want to get a start in making stats on a new project. I'm not thinking too much about a new project until this one is finished -- and that means until the last job and not before.

As I commented before, I believe the jobs will begin to run low in early December if we are to see a 16 December cutoff for accepting results!

I would urge all my FaD teammates to stay the course.

I've had the immense privilege work being TeAmmate to a lot of wonderful people and the comraderie, and the support from the, has been simply awesome.

Let me say that the privilege has been ours as a TeAm. My 4 year anniversary with the TeAm is coming up next month and I have to say that I would be hard pressed to find someone who models what it means to be a great TeAmmate better than you.

Since I have been primarily a Seti guy who has dabbled with other projects some, we haven't really spent a lot of time on the same project, but it doesn't take much to see the positive effect you have on this TeAm.

I know you have a tough decision to make and whatever that decision is I hope it is the best for you.

I dont' mean to thread crap, but I know where you guys are coming from. I have only been crunching for F@H for a little over a year but I have made alot of good friends. The comraderie and helpfulness is great. It reminds me of when I used to 'MUD' (Multi-User Domain)in College about 15 years ago. I remember joining a MUD hosted on a specific server, making great friends, then having to go else where when the people running the server were forced to shut it down for one reason or another. At which point, everyone would have to restart somewhere else from square one and go through the whole process again. Sometimes it was a few months, sometimes as long as a couple of years. After a while, I got tired and gave it up. Hopefully it won't happen to you guys, because as long as we're part of the same Anandtech team, we should be able to move around with our freinds/teammates.

Just thought i'd add my .02 worth.

I couldn't agree more with Greg! Although I've never been part of any other DC team, I couldn't imagine there being a greater one than TA, simply because of all the awesome teammates we've got here! :D

I'm pretty new to the TeAm, and only joined because I stumbled across the profile of one of the TeAmmates when they were the user of the day for Seti--but I've been impressed with the quality of the individuals here.

I also just started using BOINC and running Rosetta--good stuff.

Go TeAm!

Boy do I know what you describe GeoffS.

I hope you can remember the days of DF and the ATWE. I seem to remember sending a prize out either to you or through you. I remember I was feeling pretty dapper when you said I did a nice job of packaging it..... ROFL :D

When that project diminished it was with a fizzle and I was so disappointed. Thankfully Josh talked me into trying F@H and I found a home with even more unbelievably supportive team mates and friends. I folded a couple years and then recently found myself in a position that made me consider, re-consider, and then think about it some more.... leaving F@H.

Just this week I had to make my departure and felt that same lost feeling and caught myself entertaining the thoughts.... "screw this.... I should just pull the plug". I was a little surprised how unsettling it was to just step out of a project. (I am still hoping my team mates understand and know I really do care and will continue to)

then I (on a whim really) joined Rosetta and am finding signs of the same positives I had found in those other projects. The software is fine (I think I'm going to like Boinc) and well, I don't have to tell you about the people.....

I keep seeing this one quote and I want to rah rah along with it every time I do....

This is The Best Damn DC TeAm in the World! :)beer: and KUDOS to you Smoke)

Anyay, follow your feelings and Know even those of us that don't know you well will surely respect any path you choose and consider you a friend and GREAT TEAM MATE

I can guess what DF is but what is ATWE??
Stay with Rosetta, and wait for Orbit and PlanetQuest :D
Smoke should have that engraved in stone :D :D

I used to upgrade pretty often and had this pile of "stuff" that covered half of the front room floor. Anyway, I (with help) set up a race called the Anandtech White Elephant race (ATWE)

A lot of people donated prizes from the piles they had on their floors that were just like mine. (White Elephant gifts)

The project was called Distributed Folding. (DF)
