TA wants us to use straight pins instead of staples

Leros

Lifer
The TA for my solid-state class sent out an email telling us to stop using staples and to use straight pins to hold our homework together. He says he likes being able to take out the pin.

Anybody else run into this?

He moved here from China a few months ago, is this a Chinese thing?

Straight pins? As in the kind you sew with? riiiight. Buy the strange foreigner a staple remover with a note saying this is how dad did it, this is how America does it, and it's worked out pretty well.

Uh how do you put a straight pin into a stack of papers? Wouldn't it just bend under the pressure?

I can see me trying to shove a fucking straight pin through 15 pages...

Tell the motherfucker we use staples in this country. If he wants straight pins...go back to his ass-backwards country where staples haven't been invented yet. 😀

Oh, I've done that, except with a stapler and more like 20 pages. It happened a couple times when I was about to hand in an assignment that I printed at the school lab, and forgot to bring my own stapler. So, I found a stapled page, then poked 2 X #pages holes into the page with either a mechanical pencil or a stapler, then manually inserted and bent the staple into place. Why the f*** didn't I just ask around for a stapler...

lol that wont hold well for those retarded huge assignments.

I actually had this assignment once when I was in college, I had to use an impact staple gun against the cement then bend the staple manually with plyers so I could get it together. Those huge potato chip clips work well too and would of probably been a neater solution in my case.

Fortunately, I'm on good terms with the secretaries in the division office...I can go in there and borrow the heavy-duty stapler that easily goes through 30 or more pages.
(sometimes it pays off to kiss the asses of the staff...especially the ladies in the dean's office) 😀

Some grad students are just weird. I had an officemate that would always shut off my Dell that was idle most of the time because he felt it was too loud 😕

just to bump this up as I found someone else with this issue and a solution.

A stapler with reversible anvil can pin paper. The staple will just slide out with your fingers
