Final Update....

TeAm AnandTech, thanks to all your help, has taken a nice lead in the race and seems to be cruising to a big win. We do, however, have several other goals.

One of the goals is to move into the top 10 in the world...and that's a tough one...without your help, that is. Join the TeAm and help push us into the top 10 and beyond! :)

The Second...is to pass DSLR not only for the race...but in membership as well! :) We've cut their membership lead from 469 at the start of the race down to 80! :D yes....we need more..more..more...we want more TeAmmates at the end of the race (Feb 28th) than they have....will you help?

First...welcome to all those who have joined! :D

DSLR now has two big guns....they have the power of about 700 PC's between them...and the potential for more... the only way to overcome them is to have more members that make the difference..and we can't even claim that...as they have almost 300 more members than we do...1662 vs 1949....so that's why we need your help.

Please read the posts below and help..You'll find a great group of TeAm members and a great forum in the DC forum to make friends and have fun...come on..join up and let the fun begin! :D We look forward to welcoming YOU to the TeAm! :D

TeAm AnandTech Easy to Install SETI guide...please use the CLI version install :)

Update: Quotes from DSLR members and what they think of AnandTech and our (YOUR) TeAm:

Team AnandTech is good during a challenge, but the difference between TA and DSLR Team Starfire is persistence. Starfire doesn't slack off after a challenge. We maintain our increased production. TA will fall asleep again, within a few weeks of the finish and we'll cut their lead and pass them.

and

Don't get upset at the amount of time the TA guys spend here. Since you've visited their site and read their threads, you should understand why they prefer to spend most of their time here. Let them enjoy themselves for a change. It's soooooo boring over there. >>

Read these and see what kind of respect AnandTech receives...

Started a new thread as the old one was large and potentially hard to read by all....

Thanks to all who have joined and a warm welcome as well...but we need more....

DSLR has their big producer back (about the power of 700 PC's or so)...and he's helping them pull away. Can the AnandTech faithful...with all the members...and all the PC's let this happen.....

I hope not! :Q Please Join..

***Notice to all those who have joined and are using the CLI and SETIDriver....Please make sure to add the shortcut to the STARTUP folder to insure that it will RESTART if your PC is restarted**

Previous thread info...

Hello all.....

It's that time again....we have been challenged to a new race with DSL Team Starfire...

The last race was a great growing experience for both teams but was ended just short of completion because of the sad day of September 11th.

Since then though, team DSL Starfire has outgrown and outproduced us considerably.....now it's our turn!!! :Q:Q:Q

A new race has started and we need your support.....all it takes is a few extra cpu cycles...just a few. The clients use spare CPU cycles in the search for signals and other signs from space for intelligent life or anomolies. They are easy to use, have little (mostly NO) impact on your system (even in benchmarks) and also help science too :)

Come on over to the DC forum and see what TeAm AnandTech is all about...you'll be glad you did!!! :D

Race Rules thread! :)

Race Start Thread (with stats links)

What team DSL Team Starfire thinks of AnandTech! :Q

TeAm Welcome thread with client information and setup links :)

Come on guys...put that new PC to work....support this great site and a great TeAm...

Team AnandTech needs your help.......please answer the call and defeat the DSL team...you'll be glad you did! :D

Team AnandTech Strikes back! :Q Buwhahahaha!

Race stats.....click me!

Alright I'm new to the distributed computing world...

I have the following power to donate if you can answer a few questions...

1GHz AMD desktop
1GHz Pentium-M notebook
700Mhz Pentium III desktop
300Mhz Pentium II desktop
200MHz Pentium MMX Desktop
120MHz Pentium Desktop

Should I run this software on all these or just the faster ones? Will it cause long term damage by overheating the processor (especially on the notebook computer?)

These should run seti fine.

200MHz Pentium MMX Desktop < this may complete a Work Unit every day and a half or so, it's your call. I run it on my 233MHz P MMX, every little bit helps:)

<< Will it cause long term damage by overheating the processor (especially on the notebook computer?) >>

Running seti will not cause damage but it could make you aware of a failing piece of hardware sooner. After running it on a system here at the house I discovered a bad stick of Crucial RAM. FYI I run seti@home on my Toshiba P2-233 notebook with zero problems.

<edit> click the link in my sig if you need any help setting up the seti@home cli client. I would also advise that you use a proxy server such as Orange Kids <edit>

I personally have 5 PC's crunching and munching away. Since the call went up almost two months ago, my results received has zoomed from a paltry 35 to 295!

AMD Athlon XP at 1.4ghz
AMD Athlon C at 1.2 ghz
AMD Duron 1ghz
AMD Athlon at 900mhz
AMD K6-2+ at 450mhz

All are attached to my little home network (part 10/100 ethernet, part 10mb HPNA hooked up to a cable connection). If you have an old geezer PC lying around somewhere, crank it up and start crunching!:D

Join TeAm Anandtech and help us get to the top spot in the world!!!

How many times in history has this kind of group madness served to cause great strife and suffering? TA SETI now needs a flag and a political doctrine, or a TA SETI manifesto!

Crunching is cool! Since I started I am in the "IN" crowd now. Before I was just a geek with no friends, now I am a geek with DC friends!!!

well, its getting a little frustrating lately. I have about 20 WU's waiting to be unloaded and the Berkeley bandwidth is seriously slowing me down. And my fastest PC is now without WU's :(

But I'm still crunching and hopefully, the situation changes soon enough.
