T40 internal wireless question

Hey Everyone,

I received a T40 from my work and I have a question. It seems that they have disabled/not isntalled the internal wireless on it(we use cards plugged into the laptops to access wifi at work, I'm guessing it's for security reasons). It does not show up in device manager or anything, so I was curious to as to what I could do to install it and enable it so I could use it at home.

I'm not sure about IBM specifically, but some laptops can disable wifi in the BIOS. Also check that the physical integrated wifi card is actually there. It's easily removable through the panels on the bottom of the laptop, like RAM is.

The first thing I would do is go to IBM's site and look up the drivers for your model (you can search by the exact TP model #). If you don't know the exact wifi card, look up the specs for that same model # and DL the drivers for it. Do what WobbleWobble suggested and make sure its not disabled in the BIOS and then check Device Manager under "Unknown Devices."

If you still don't see a sign of the card, you can always try to install the drivers and see if it is actually there; I'd bet you'll get some kind of error if the card isn't there.
You could also look up the Hardware Maintenance Manual (HMM) on IBM's site and find the mini-PCI slot to see if they physically removed the card.
Or just plug in a PCMCIA or USB wifi card and leave ur company laptop alone
