140+ 145 = 285 million total

total production budget was 200 million + 40 million advertising = 240 million

made a 45 million profit from theaters alone, and will make alot more more from dvd, and rentals...

Movies have to share the ticket sales revenue with the theaters that play the movies.

ahh yea, forgot to factor that in

i would still assume it makes a profit from video and movie sales, not too large of one.. but still a profit

i think your missing the point. whethor or not they make money is not relevant.

the point is, look at all the movies that have grossed over 200 mill so far this year, with 2 more likely to do it by the end of the year. Matrix 3 and ROFK are all likely to break 200 mill.

relatively speaking, T3 has been an abject failure. it won't even make the top 20 in gross domestic sales this year.

It's beating Blow Boys 2.

there is a good chance that for most of us, expectations for BB2 was lower than expectations for T3, probably a lot lower. the fact that they are as close as they are in gross says a lot about how much of a flop T3 is.

T3 was one of the better action movies of this year.

Behind that you have :

Reloaded - 5% Action 95% of Mythology Mind Warping Plot
Bad Boys 2 - 100% Action 0% Plot or Story ( LAPD taking on Cuba ... right)
SWAT - 10% Action , 10% Story, 80% Boredom . What a hyped up POS.

after the matrix II sequel, most other sequels in the year have had a tuff time in the box office, plus gigli and the economy haven't helped.

For the most part I buy DVD's, would rather wait and avoid the chatty noisy aholes, dirty theatres, and $15 pop and popcorn

I think T3 was a pretty darn good movie. That chase scene where TX is driving the humongous crane was pretty impressive. I didn't like the way they did the TX terminator. This terminator was supposed to be more advanced than the T1000 in the last movie, but it didn't really seem all that great. The idea of a liquid metal machine was way cooler and futuristic imo. However TX was WAY hot! Bangin'!

James Cameron wasn't even involved with this, as I recall. Different director and different writers on the script. I thought it was pretty good in any case. The action scenes were great and the direction they took with the plot was pretty surprising, but good.

While the Director (U-571) is a competent Director, he's no James Cameron.

Cameron is at the Master level of Spielberg.

You put Cameron to helm the next one (or me :p), it'll do over $200 million guranteed.
