I may be mistaken, but I think T3s can include voice transmission, whereas DS3s are primarily for data transmission...

FYI, a DS3 is 28 T1s bundled together for a combined bandwidth of 43.08mbps (28 * T1 = 28 * 24channels * 64kbps/channel)

I think DS3 is digital services (aka clear channel, which means it can't be broken down into multiple smaller channels) and T3 is Trunk ... e.g. a phone trunk with 644 phone lines (64kbps * 24lines * 28T1s - 28 channels for signalling)

Cheers,
randal

DS-X and T series are not the same exact thing. The T series used in the US, the E series in Europe and I think the J series used in Japan are based on the DS-X standards.

DS-X is defined by ANSI standards while the others are based on ITU-T standards and just use multiples of the 64K DS0. The T series is closely aligned to the DS-X so they are pretty much interchangable.

For example, a T3 and DS3 both are comprised of 672 DS0s while the E3 just has 512 DS0s.
