They always shrink to be short, but some how stay wide, so they fit really bad and I can't wear them. I lose a lot of money on t-shirts. Who the hell wants to hang dry

I thought you all should know.

Try buying some quality clothes instead of that garbage you're using now. Until you do, you have no right to complain. Everyone knows this.

Try buying different types/brands? I have some shirts that do that, and then others that stay long. Also, how you wash and dry them can have a big impact. Have you tried drying them at a lower temperature?

I think you're the only one with that problem.
Like others say, wash and dry them correctly.

He's not the only one. I have some Hanes Beefy T's that are heavy cotton that shrink and then I have some other lightweight no name walmart or target T's that retain their size. Both washed and dried the same. If you want a quality T shirt you usually need to spend $15.00 plus which I personally think is just ridiculous money to spend on a T shirt. I would spend that on a polo but not a T shirt that I'm just going to wear around and get it dirty working on things.

I have also had this problem, the only way I found to correct was to yell at the wife. :p

Why? Do you think it's unmanly or stupid to know how to take care of your clothes? Or do you honestly think it's more manly and smarter to be completely ignorant and continually ruin your clothing?

You can buy really long t-shirts. Also, you can buy polyester t-shirts.
Dont believe any tag that says "pre-shrunk". Its gonna shrink after you buy it.

If you are looking for good undershirts, buy alfani. They aren't cheap, but they are very comfortable, and last a really long time. They dont stretch out and they don't shrink. The only time I replace mine is if I stain them by doing yardwork or something in them. Most of them last 3+ years before I feel the need to replace them.

Rule of thumb: If you don't like it, don't buy it, don't wear it.

I love t-shirts, but it seems 9/10 times they end up becoming so out of shape from shrinkage that they don't fit well at all.

I heard the answer is to wash cold and hang-dry them, but that takes forever and they end up feeling stiff.

If only Apple made T-shirts :(
if Apple made t-shirts, they would only come in one size. the size would change every couple years, though, so wearers will be expected to gain/lose weight accordingly should they ever find themselves in need of a new shirt.

my biggest problem with clothes is seemingly arbitrary sizing.

I bought 3 XL t-shirts last week from different makers... 2 fit me like tents and yet the third is kinda tight

Nah, I've had that problem too. It's not so much a matter of proper laundering as it is the product quality.

Better quality t-shirts don't do this, but cheaper ones seem to ALL do it.

I'm not sure it's so much the quality, as the weave style. Champion Tshirts tend to do that, and they're pretty high quality. It very rarely happens to me, but I have a few that have done that. A general tip for drying anything... Use lower heat, but leave it on longer. That helps reduce shrinkage, and prevents heat damage to more delicate clothes.

Maybe you didn't notice the smiley at the end of the post...
