if you are houston, go with cingular...

my family uses t-mobile, but my gf and i use cingular...i didn't really think too much of it, and both seemed about teh same...

wasn't until the hurricane rita evacuations...my whole family who was using t-mobile were getting circuit buys, and unable to completes on ALL their calls - within and outside of the t-mobile network...

my gf and i, who were using cingular coudl make and receive calls without a hitch, within and outside the cingular network.

after that experience, i'm telling my parents to switch once their contract runs out. for them, they count on their cell phones for emergencies, and i think t-mobile really dropped the ball

Which one do you prefer?

Cingular, but only because they have a tower on the roof of the hospital where I work. My department is located in what used to be radiology and only the Cingular signal is strong enough to make it in through the lead shielding in the walls.

Don't know what you were reading, but T-Mobile introduced free mobile to mobile, so there is no $7 charge.

No they didn't, at least they're not offering it on their web site. You may have gotten some sort of retention promo. T-mobile sux.
