Wow. We pay $1/day premium for unlimited international data with VZW for our smart phones (doesn't include tethering). This lady needs to shop around.

i find it really funny that international companies with their own networks (usually through parent companies) in other countries claim that you are roaming when using their own network overseas. tmobile is deutsche telekom, and will charge you $15/MB for data roaming when using their network in germany.

with proper 4G service being IP based this stuff gets really ridiculous.

Ouch, that sucks, but she got lucky, but still, that's a big bill to pay. I really think there needs to be a law when it comes to services like this, where a bill cannot surpass more than say, 3x the normal rate, or something. After that, they would need to cut off the service or just reduce it. I rather my cell phone stop working, than ramp up a 200k bill not realizing it. Someone who is not familiar with the way the service works can easily do a screw up like this and not realize. My mom works in customer service at my ISP and takes mobility calls as well and this is actually quite a frequent occurrence. People not realizing that you pay for each text, and pay per MB when using data, etc... it adds up VERY fast, especially roaming. This is why I'm totally against internet caps. I'm already paying for the service, why should I have to monitor my usage to avoid paying more?

My coworker went for training, and decided to use his blackberry real quick just to look up a map as he got lost. BOOM $500 bill. It's retarded, really. My boss just laughed and said don't worry about it, but imagine this on your personal cell.
