T-Mobile Prepaid monthly plans getting an upgrade 5/22/2011...

Wow, this is... almost exactly... what I'm looking for.

May 22nd, T-Mobile will be "upgrading" their Prepaid monthly plans.

$70/month - unlimited talk/text/2gb data will be going to unlimited talk/text/"unlimited" data (probably throttled after 2gb)

$50/month - unlimited talk/text/100mb data will be going to unlimited talk/text/100mb then unlimited throttled data

Basically the change is that BOTH plans will now be uncapped, and WON'T cut you off of data services once you reach the cap.

I don't know about you, but a national prepaid carrier offering unlimited talk/text/web for $50/month (less if you buy your refills at a discount) is pretty much EXACTLY what I've been waiting for. BYOD GSM, 3g/4g access for what amounts to $45 or $63/month? Hells yeah. Hopefully they don't screw the pooch on this one.

i've never been throttled, but from what I hear, throttled web is good enough for emails, IM, and app use, but browsing is painful.

Yes, browsing can sometimes be painful. What I'm told those is that even if you're throttled, you can force your phone into EDGE/2G mode and end up with faster speeds than you'd be throttled with. Problem for me is that for whatever reason EDGE with TMo sucks, and half the time I can't even do anything with it.

$50/month unlimited everything on Sprint's footprint? Okay... but... no BYOD, very limited phone selection? If you want to play that game, might as well just go with virgin mobile.

How are you getting refills for $63 for the $70 plan? Where do you get discounts? Wouldn't it be more since you pay tax?

Callingmart.com generally has 10% off coupon codes every months for T-Mo, AT&T and Verizon. There's no tax on it, and all "taxes" regarding cell phones that you find as under-the-line fees on a traditional bill are included in (most) prepaid services. You'll pay sales tax on the prepaid refills generally only if you buy in a local retail store (walmart, target, etc).

Sounds good and maybe a better alternative to simple mobile (it uses the t-mobile network).

Simple mobile has $60 unlimited talk, text, and web. But people on howard forums have reported getting complaints after using 1GB of data. I think they loosened up a bit though and don't complain as much now.
