The G2x is T-Mobile’s version of the LG Optimus 2X, so it features the same exact hardware as the global version. Highlights of the G2x include a Tegra 2 mobile processor with dual-core CPU, 4-inch WVGA display, 8-megapixel rear-facing camera with LED flash and autofocus, front-facing 1.3-megapixel camera, 8 GB internal storage, 512 MB RAM, and support for T-Mobile’s 4G HSPA+ network.

However when it comes to software, T-Mobile stayed true to the G-series and went with a stock version of Android 2.2. It would have been nice if it shipped with the newer Android 2.3, but we hear an update is already in testing and should be available shortly after launch.

Good news, but I've no idea if the phone supports AT&Ts 3G bands since they're going to use T-Mobile's current 3G AWS spectrum for their LTE buildout. Would suck to buy it, and have it be a worthless brick in 12 months.

I'm not buying any new high-end phone for T-Mobile. Good thing I'm happy with my phone. It's unlocked and supports 3g for both T-Mobile and AT&T. :)

It should work fine, but you lose the speed of T-mobile's HSPA+ network and go to at&t's slow one once they kill off T-mobile's AWS stuff.

FUCK THE AWS SPECTRUM. No one's going to use it in the rest of the world, and unless people start making pentaband handsets, we're gonna get screwed AGAIN.

all carriers really need to just adopt the same fucking tech, same for worldwide. we should have 1 cell network that you can use globally,

The world does suprisingly well given that no one country is in charge. But for spectrum, it's hard. In a lot of countries spectrum was allocated for a usage a long time ago and getting that spectrum back to have one clear band is tricky. Once you allocate a chunk of wireless spectrum for, say, emergency handheld devices, it's hard to get that wireless spectrum back (because you disable all of the emergency responder handsets).

Personally I've always thought it's weird that we have so many different plug standards for outlets... in a lot of European countries they sell electronics with either no plug or a built-in plug adapter because there's so many different plug types. When we were living in Poland a few years ago they have two plug standards (Soviet and EU, I think but I'm not sure) so I had to have a plug adapter for an item that I bought in the country for some of the outlets in the house. So, to bring this back around to spectrum and technology... if the world can't unite on a bit of metal and plastic that everyone all the time, then I'm surprised that we are as aligned as we all seem to be on the issues of worldwide spectrum and technology. To me it's amazing that you can use WiFi devices worldwide (with a few exceptions like Israel), and that I can get off a plane in Germany and plug in a local sim and have the whole thing work... to me that's magic.

We all seem to be converging on LTE for technology (even Japan and the US...) with a few holdouts for Wimax, and the number of LTE bands are - so far anyway - fewer than the number of 3G/UMTS/HSPDA bands. We are getting closer in this next technology cycle than we have ever been.
