Title says it all. Ports that I personally can verify are open are 443 (https), 5190 (icq) and 6667 (irc).

Oh, just in case someone's wondering, I made sure I physically turned off my WiFi card, lol...

Also hope this is not old news. I searched around and couldnt find anything related.

That I don't know. Right now I use a USB Bluetooth "dongle" to dial through my phone. I plan on getting a Bluetooth PC card in the near future. However, if I were ever to get a GPRS PC card, I'd make sure it did EDGE too.

Which T-Mobile plan do you have?

There's a 560+ post thread about this on FW.

Not a bad deal considering most GPRS areas are being converted to EDGE in the near future. For Cingular by July over 90% of the coverage area should be EDGE capable, and as most of you know, Tmobile and Cingular share towers in a lot of the country and Tmobile uses Cingular towers 100% in California. I connect my t616 via bluetooth to my Powerbook and get about 46kbps. Slow but tolerable.

I don't know why. I've never done anything to my account aside setting up automatic monthly payments... In fact, that was my first time logging in there, lol.

I've got a question.

I went to check out my current activities and bill, but it only shows me the info for my own number. Is there anyway I can see the summary for the whole account (both numbers in the same family plan)?

So, if I'm on the Sidekick plan, can I still take advantage of this? :p I'm paying $30/month just for the SK alone.

I'm not familiar with the sidekick at all. Are you saying you're only paying $30/mo for both voice and data or you're paying $30/mo on top of whatever you're already paying for voice?

No offense, but this is VERY VERY old news. So old in fact, their are numerous threads on howardforums.com that they are supposed to be (actually supposed to have ALREADY) blocking all ports except 80. WAP is free on all T-mobile plans (altho rumored to be taken away as well, but I don't think they will). I pay $4.99 extra for the Tzones as I like the fact that I can set up stuff on their site for it. My wifes phone (she does not have Tzones and we are on $69.99 family plan) has WAP access, just not their custom, Tzones Portal.
That being said, I have a V300 flashed and flexed to a v600. NO problems using a USB cable to dial up to 'net and using my VPN client to access work (at least wasn't problem 3 weeks ago). I got about 115kbps dialing up via laptop thru phone. They don't charge extra for this as of right now (haven't seen it on my bill) and the Free WAP isn't even deducted off your packaged minutes as long as you are on the gprs network :)

Yes! Another HoFo man! I havn't been in awhile, but I didn't know about them opening up more ports. I was under the imprettion that 21 (http) and 9229 (and one other imap/pop3) were the only 3 open. I must be out of the loop. All the hardcore peeps will just ssh to their client server and port forward all the ports anywho. I only hooked up my t610 once to my puter through IR to check out the speeds I get through GPRS and it was pretty good. I'd say a good, solid double analog speed connection. I was getting downloads as high as 18kb/s which I think is amazing. Also, I dunno if any of you had AIM problems in the past, but you can connect through aim if you change the port to 21 (which allows it to navigate through the http protocol). Worked like a charm for me.

I'm sorry for the newbie question, but:

I just ordered the 39.99 tmobile plan with a sony ericsson t610.

Does this include free WAP access?
What about internet access thru the phone, how much does this cost?
Is AIM usage free as well? I heard something about wimd.aim.com?

Sweet...I do have free WAP access. Now, is this on my phone or is this dialup through a laptop?

Edit: I'm such a noob at this...do I have to go through that t-zones button to get online from my phone or what?

It's not that they opened up the ports, they just haven't filtered any (but are purported to be doing so soon).
Anyone who wants to know anything about this, go to howardforums.com and READ!

You can use either. I have the free WAP on our family plan (I cancelled t-zones... unnecessary for my needs), and use it primarily as internet access on my laptop through the phone, a Nokia 6610, connected via USB or IrDA. I can also use the browser on the phone to view web pages.

If you're interested, I have a few entries on my site that are relevant:
Nokia 6610 and T-Mobile - How to Setup Free GPRS Internet Access in XP
Nokia 6610 and T-Mobile - Internet Access via CSD

Also, I have varied luck with different ports. Sometimes I am unable to use "special" ports (SSH, RDP, HTTPS, etc.), but about 50% of the time I have no problem.

Thanks for the info, olliebg. I have yet to get a cell-phone, but am looking to do so if I can get internet access through the phone as well. Do you happen to know if you can get free/unlimited WAP internet access (even with restricted ports), if you are on a pay-as-you-go T-Mobile plan? If the GRPS WAP access doesn't take off of minutes (when on a plan), I'm wondering if it also wouldn't take off minutes from a pre-paid card, so as long as I kept up my pre-paid acct., I could access the net essentially for free, wirelessly. That could be a really, really hot deal!
