I know there are other more cell-phone-dedicated sites that I should go to check, but I want to do an informal check here first.

Is T-Mobile coverage temporarily dead in Portland as of this post?

I'm asking because my phone has been turned on for about 2 hours now (I had to recharge the battery), and my phone has not been able get on to the network. The signal strength shows 5 or all 6 bars, but it still says "No Service".

I heard that the US army was testing EMP devices in oregon for the next 3-4 months, and residents can expect to have essentially no functional electrical devices for that time :)

Have you tried turning your phone off and then on again? If that doesn't help, something might be wrong.

I just called my wife's T-Mobile using my T-Mobile phone (family plan).

Works just fine.

Did you try what I recommended? Turning the phone off and then back on? That works for this type of problem like 98% of the time.
