Nothing.
Wait until it's expired and then call them to see if you can get a handset upgrade or good rate plan.
Or you can just do nothing and continue with your T-Mobile service as-is without renewing a contract.

I want to get a good deal on a new cell will they ask me to get a 2-yr contract or will they give me another 1-yr contract ?

most deals from tmobile require you to join a 2 year plan. you don't have to wait for the exact date to expire. you can just get a new phone now, join the 2 year plan, and they will extend the 2 years from the date you purchased the new phone.

Don't people get discounts on phones along with the contract extension? If you wait until the contract is expired, the cost of the phone will drop again. You'll get the biggest discount after your contract is expired.

Depends on the rep you get. Most will give you the same deal that you'd get if your contract already expired if you're 1-2 months away from the expiring date. They might even be nicer to you as they'd rather lock you up into a new contract before giving you the chance to shop around.

If you don't get what you're looking for with one rep, you can always try calling back.Plus, the retail stores can give different types of deals than the call in, though I'm not sure which deals are better.

I called and told them I was thinking about switching to cingular because of the new IPOD phone. I asked to speak to an "Account Specialist" this is the important part. Then explain that you can easily get a better deal and push for half off the price they are offering for the phone and then ask for your 6th month of service for free.
This worked for me.
